^^^ What a delightfully condescending and myopic article. But considering the source...

It's basically an echo chamber/yesman group here. I like reading peoples points of view that may differ from my own, which is provided on C2E at times, but there's a certain group that wants to stifle differing opinions on C2E... I guess the world can always use another echo chamber/yesman group.

So then, let's discuss....cause I am hearing really great feedback from a good cross-section of folks.

^^ I don't know where you get that at all, particularly given constant ongoing arguments between cold and 240. Of the fact that two people already disagree about whether or not Southpark looks like a good development just on the previous page. Lots of disagreement here, usually respectful but unfortunately less so lately.

The basic premise is laughable. It maybe reflects the views of some Avenue readers but certainly won't reflect the views of most Edmontonians I'd wager

It's impossible to have this discussion with you, so I will not waste either of our time

The entire point of the article was to create discussion and stir the pot. Whether it be car-less or less-car, more inclusive housing, reinvestment in existing schools or better transit and neighbourhood amenities, Edmonton is still very much headed the wrong direction.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it

Doesn't make it a fact though

And your delivery is absolutely awful

These comments are brimming with hypocrisy, you can't even make this stuff up. Pure gold.....

Actually, much of it is fact... even if we are making some great positive change of late.

Yeah, I actually did check into C2E last night for the first time in what seems like over a year, just to see if anything new was going on there and hadn't been shared or if the tone of the community has gotten any better. It hasn't. Despite this recent drama on the Edmonton forum, SSP still remains through-and-through a very enlightening place to learn and discuss with other enlightened individuals, not all of which have the same views, especially outside of this subforum, but even here. Like you pointed out, people are already disagreeing over Southpark and nobody is getting their pitchforks yet.

Feepa, I don't know what transpired between you and Cold exactly and his decisions for banning you and it sounds 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, but perhaps PMing him would be better?

But it isn't. It's your opinion.

That's the reason so many feel your opinions are invalid. Not because you share them, but that you conflate opinion with fact

Guys, can you please take the personal jabs into the private message realm?

I'd like to hear more commentary about real estate on this board, and not have to wade through recurring mud-slinging.

Or you can tell me to go to hell. Then at least I'll know who to put on my ignore list.

^go to hell!! JK you're cool

The problem is that you can't please the whole city. There is definitely a huge trend of people trying to go urban, living closer to the core, using less car. But this is also truck country and will be in the foreseeable future. Plus there everyone in between and for those in between, I believe convenience and affordability are the main drivers. Those drivers still point to cars.

I think we all understand here and c2e that people have different opinions, and that's fine. What's not fine is the personal attacks, dismissing information because of who's making it and, lack of substance in the criticism they are making.

We get that you disagree, but constantly stating that it is stupid, false, or idiotic is useless. If your going to disagree, attack the point that's being made, post some reasons you believe that point, maybe post some sources if they exist. Hell even anecdotal evidence is better than what goes on in these two sites. The point of an argument is to convince the other side that you're right, and that doesn't get done by telling the other side that your right and they're wrong.

If all you are doing is disagreeing with no substance other than personal attacks why even post at all?

There's a few users on here and c2e that seem to think that people are always teaming up on them because they share a different opinion. Most of us I hope can respect a different opinion. What we can't respect is the toxic way they are made and the vitriol with little substance.

Here's a nice little sample to get you started:

"I disagree with IanO and the article because *opinion*. I think that because *source/anecdote*. In the article is states *quote*, yet because of *anecdote/source/opinion* I don't think it is right."

If the discussions here were a lot more like this, things would be much more productive and friendly.

It's all about balance, I guess, and where the problem lies could be with our respective definitions of what balance comprises. Well, anyhow, back to real estate. How about that Whyte Avenue development!

ProCura Development Brings Rental Units to Jasper Avenue

Quote:
Jasper Avenue is Edmonton's main street. Slicing through the downtown core, it is populated on either side by highrise towers, heritage buildings, and vibrant commercial outlets. Jasper Avenue's wide selection of amenities and conveniences attracted leading Alberta developer ProCura, who has invested in the high-growth area by building the ten-storey Mayfair on Jasper complex.

Good design, killer location, huge amount of potential retail/amenity and more surface gone.

Win, win, win, win.
