W/B overpass on the Sherwood Park Freeway is open now.
Just the N/B flyover and a couple of exits left to go for that interchange

^ Looks fine; just looks like they're prepping asphalt for the last bridge structure.

Edit: Looking again it seems the middle section seems to be getting reworked.

I heard some rumours of major issues with the paneled retaining wall systems... could be related.

That's what I was wondering too - whether they had to dig out the ramp earthwork and rebuild it for some reason. Maybe I should drive by there soon for a closer look.

Yah they dug out both approaches and are now starting to replace the dirt and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls which were there. Not really sure the why, two probables, too high bentonite in the soil, which would cause heaving problems, or soil not strong enough so it wouldn't resist deformation from loads or be able to hold the MSE in place.

As for October, it is looking more and more likely, most of the newer bridges (Yellowhead over rail tracks, AHD over the rail tracks, Yellowhead/AHD flyovers) mostly have their decks poured. So it is a matter of finishing up the approaches, guardrails, signs, lighting and landscaping.

Broadmoor Boulevard bridge is almost ready to open, perhaps in a week or 2 this would greatly help the morning rush hour problem of people trying to get into the industrial area north of Yellowhead.

PS: Hallsy's ... love the handle

I believe through spring and summer '13 Stoney also claimed to be on time. Either way, to finish a massive project like this anything close to on time with weather as horrible as Edmonton is remarkable. Now the SW leg badly needs upgrades as it grinds to a halt on a daily basis. How on earth did the province find money to widen the entirety of NW Stoney to 6 lanes when that had zero congestion compared to SW Henday?

Maintenance of the NW Stoney is under a P3 contract, is it not?

Dear God yes. This section of the Henday is a absolute unequivocal cluster —.

Most in their right mind with a map and a ounce of common sense can see this. So little vision...so sad.

SW was not a P3 - the Province created this mess all on its own. It is the worse and yet busiest section of the AH. They need to add 3rd and 4th lanes, finish the buildout of overpasses. The bridge is also woefully inadequate...a second bridge is needed.

If I recall, that bridge was designed for 2 more lanes.

?? I drove it last week and 1 more would be a squeeze. Maybe someone with a cut of the constructed plans can post it.

My photo from last year; supports can easily handle two more lanes:

I am 99.9% sure it can be widened on each side.

I'm 100% certain that it can be - it was always meant to be expanded to 4 lanes in each direction in the ultimate configuration plans.
Hopefully as the NE section is complete, we can see some traction on getting the SW built to match the levels.

The AB Gov recently announced that they are going to re-do the noise study for the SW section... I wonder if that a prelude to expansion studies?

Those other two bridges in the SW though, the ones over creeks whose names I've forgotten... are they ready for 3+ lanes?
