When the city hosts huge events, such as the pope visit followed by the DNC, having quality hotels really matters.
It's not just additional tax revenue for the city, but more revenue from the local eateries and visits to local shops as well.

When you think about it, the street vendors would also benefit from the hotels.

Oh wait, does "Center City" have street vendors?
It's been too many years since I've been there!

I tend to disagree. The slabs will 'brace' the walls. The rakers will come out sometime after the slabs are up to grade, imo.

just looking at the horizontal pillars, it is pretty obvious that they are there to make sure the Ritz and Chestnut street dont collapse.

I imagine they would need a few basement floors installed before they take them all out to replace what they are doing cause i doubt a wall will be enough to replace those pillars....but that makes the construction of the core complicated...?

but im not an architectual engineer, so what do i know

Drives me crazy, maybe cause I'm crazy. Colums are vertical, beams horizontal. Hence Raker Beams holding back excavtion damage.

Yeah, 2nd week of December I made an apology for the abrupt change in camera perspective. Then shortly thereafter they upgraded our office and made the windows operable. Now I lean out the window to get the shot.

Quite a contrast from one year to the next. Some of us were worrying that it would never be more than Diggerland's Center City branch.

The photos look out of order.
The last photo seems to show the ground before it was dug up.

Great photos, location and perspective, thisisforreal!
I totally agree, the quality is outstanding!!

It says "August 4th, 2015" so of course it's before it was dug up.

Or reading "War And Peace".

Actually, I get more kicks outta watching paint dry, or dish cloths dry. Take your pick.

Overall, though. I'm happy that they finally got the issues out of they way to proceed. That IS one DEEP hole!
