Yes, FIFA would be more of a challenge; however, hotels are still popping up within the Regina/Moose Jaw area. If Canada gets the '26 FIFA, the Regina area will be up to the challenge. (Saskatoon isn't really that far away either.)
Apparently hotel room availability was still an issue in 2013:

"Lack of hotel rooms has football fans bringing RVs to Grey Cup in Regina
REGINA — The Canadian Press
Published Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 9:04PM EST

Huddled together in a parking lot near Mosaic Stadium are 100 recreational vehicles, which will be home to football fans who plan to camp for the 101st Grey Cup.

The temperature was in the -20 C range, and even colder with the wind chill, when Michael Bruce backed his RV into place this week.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever had to bring a cooler to keep things from freezing,” joked Bruce as he unloaded the cooler and a barbecue from the back of his pickup truck.

Bruce, who is from Moosomin, Sask., east of Regina near the Manitoba border, says he’s been planning this trip for most of the summer.

He decided to camp because there was a shortage of hotel rooms in Regina.

Fans have also booked hotel rooms in Moose Jaw, about 45 minutes west of Regina along the Trans-Canada Highway, and south of Regina in Weyburn and Estevan."

Only data I could find was that Regina had 3000 hotel rooms in 2013:

"Hotel construction booming in Regina
9 new hotels projected to be built over the next 3 years
CBC News Posted: Sep 16, 2013 6:08 PM CT|

There are currently about 3,000 hotel rooms in Regina. When the construction dust settles in three years, there will be 750 more rooms."

Speaking of yellow lines, I get the soccer lines, but what are those dotted lines surrounding the field?

A beautiful 300 million dollar stadium & people are concerned about lines on the field.

I'm not sure I's call it beautiful, perhaps the inside will be nice but the outside leaves a lot to be desired.

The one time I agree with migs. It's such a non issue.

However, I wonder if stadium management can just spray those lines with some water-soluble green paint to protect the more sensitive football viewers out there?

those dotted lines are there to keep the media off the field. they have them in the NFL as well. photographers need to stay behind the dotted yellow lines.

Washable green paint to cover the white lines would look even more bush league because you can never match up the same shade of green and the permanent marks underneath always bleed through.

also. they stitched in permanent soccer lines..... but the centre circle for soccer is MISSING. are they going to stitch everything but paint the centre circle lmao

thats exactly the point. you break the bank and spend $300 million on a stadium but cheap out on not wanting to paint lines for a couple hundred bucks a week thus irritating some football fans who find the permanent soccer lines distracting while blowing your chances of hosting FIFA soccer with the current permanent football lined turf. all over a couple hundred bucks a week. to boot they said cost wasn't a factor. so they were just too lazy to have to paint the lines once a week for half a year?

dumb move IMO.

I meant painting the yellow lines over for football games... no one is going to go to the trouble of covering up all the white football lines for some routine amateur soccer game.

Has anyone complained about the soccer lines on the turf at McMahon Stadium? I haven't heard or read one person. Such a nonsensical issue imo.

Disagree, especially considering most exteriors of stadiums have no cladding whatsoever. Do you prefer the concrete walls of Rogers Center? Do you prefer the backs of grandstand forms like THF & Commonwealth?

As far as New Mosaic, the perforated metal once installed over the ramps & stairs will finish it very nicely.

Well I'm definitely not the only one who thinks McMahon Stadium is bad. Sat beside some Rider fans who came all the way from Regina and paid 74 bucks each to sit on the 5 yard line. Was interesting to hear their take on the fan experience. From the cramped seating and concourses to the "horrible third world port-a-potties". It didn't sound like they'd be coming back anytime soon. And of course they weren't too happy about the way the game went - although I thought the Riders did a pretty good job of hanging in for most of it.

Because mcmahon is a dump and ready to be replaced and cant host fifa soccer regardess because of the dimensions.

We are talking about a brand new top of the line $300 million stadium. Not a dump nearing the end of its lifespan. Apples to oranges comparison.

There are dozens of other things you can complain about mcmahon before you hit the soccer lines. Like sitting on planks of wood and pissing in port a potties.

Depends on what you compare the exterior to. If its stadiums in canada the exterior is fine. If you start comparing to stadiums in the US then thats a totally different ballgame. Of course such a comparison wouldnt really be fair because some of those stadiums have 4 times the budget as mosaic.

I think you can chalk it up to the reality that Canada's stadium tenants probably aren't wildly profitable operations. I mean, I'm sure the Blue Jays are doing well these days but the CFL and MLS teams... even if they're profitable, it's not at a level where they can really go out and build billion dollar mega stadiums.

Most of the newer breed of CFL stadiums at least go beyond having no exterior beyond the underside of a grandstand, so there has been progress even if it's not as much as some might like.

The olympic stadium's tower (175m) is getting a facelift and its interior is being renovated to accomodate 1000 Desjardins employees.

It's really no worse than Taylor Field.

The wood benches would be the east side at current Mosaic Stadium, nowhere in McMahon with wood seating.

Which I actually find a lot easier on the rear than the metal bench seating in parts of McMahon/west side Taylor Field.

I bet Mosiac does not want a big yellow circle around its logo, and since they pay big bucks, they probably get their way
