360 Main re-clad starting to grow on me a bit. Not a huge fan of the black. Pardon my lack of technical jargon here. But anyone know why they have black metal pieces for a small area then have the shiny silver ones everywhere else. The metal strips between the windows. Silver looks much better. I was/am scared the whole building will be covered in the black cheap looking strips.
If you look at some of the renderings it kinda seems the black strips might justs be on the first 5 floors or so
Ah yea, I remember seeing that. That's good. But the black metal bar things (vertical and horizontal) between windows is also a bit blah. So we'll see. Like I said, much better than before.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed by the re-clad considering they are limited to the 1970s support system. I particularly like the impression of larger windows. I'm not a fan of the black mullion caps. Would have been sleeker without caps. However, anything is better than metallic silver caps on a dark curtainwall
Is it just me or does the rendering make it look like they plan on keeping the some of the brown on the lower portion so that the corner building at P&M doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Still don't understand why that building owner wouldn't want to upgrade to go with the whole development. Also don't understand how that part ever got to be under different owners.

Would they even be able to do this reclad without the mullion caps? I prefer the look of that too, but I'm guessing they're stuck using pressure plates to hold the glass it and, therefore, caps.
I was just (for fun) comparing it to other >100m residential towers in western Canada
The current tallest residential in Winnipeg being 55 Nassau @ 109m, I think the tallest residential building in Edmonton is the Pearl @ ~121m (was on Anthony Henday ring road on Thursday and man is it ever prominent in the skyline), and the tallest residential buildings in Calgary will be the Guardian towers (both towers @ 147m, very prominent from certain vantage points)
I am not sure what the tallest residential building in BC is as most of them seem to be mixed use, and I am also not sure if this Artis one counts as "mixed use" or not because of the podium, but it will be comparable to somewhere between the Guardian towers in Calgary in terms of height (and they are quite spectacular) and the current tallest tower in Burnaby (which is among the tallest towers in BC unless I am mistaken).
From a purely "tower height" perspective, this one is going to be very fun to see go up in the Peg, and perhaps a bit underrated in the height department...as compared to residential towers in western Canada it is quite spectacular in terms of height and scope!
Just my 2 cents; chiming in with some thoughts for fun.
The 128-metre CanWest Global Place has been the tallest building in Winnipeg since it was built in 1990. But if plans by local developer Artis REIT go through, it will be dethroned by a 40-storey development at Main Street and Graham Avenue, just a block from the city's most important intersection, Portage and Main.
I took this shot this morning from Graham Ave. in front of the Police Station. You can see the first band of the lighter paneling - just under the 12th floor windows I think. There are some buildings in the way, but I think they're closing in on half way up that SW side.
It seriously looks like they could finish the tower portion of the reclad this year, then do the podium next year. Very curious to see how they finish the top off.
