I would think the City of Regina will happily pony up the $1.5 M to install grass in the unlikely chain of events that a) Canada is awarded the World Cup and b) Mosaic Stadium is chosen as a host venue.

Neither is that unlikely, especially Regina being chosen. It's arguably the best stadium in the country and it will be difficult enough to have a full compliment of stadiums. Regina is a no brainer, selling tickets and sellouts is a given for this global event.

Does Regina have the hotel capacity to accommodate group stage matches of a FIFA World Cup? This has been a challenge hosting Grey Cups in the city, and that's a one week event. I have no doubt that Regina would embrace being a host with open arms and boisterous enthusiasm, but at some point the reality of being a city of 200k is going to have an impact, no?

Agreed, but every site will always have issues to be overcome and that would be one of them for Regina.

Build a bunch of condo's that would work as hotels for the games then sell them off after. Still hard to see Regina hosting WC events though.

Certainly possible, but seems a bit unlikely that they'd install & test only the small portion they have, make graphics that fit it correctly, etc. if there was more to come.

Beautiful stadium. Exactly what a CFL venue should look like, both in size and configuration.

Just SUCH a shame about that turf. Not only are the soccer lines to appease rec leagues totally disappointing in a stadium of this class, but the stitched in logos at midfield and in the endzones ensure that we'll see more of the grungy "painted over" look that doesn't last through the first quarter during a Grey Cup.





Regina nailed everything else, but they certainly didn't nail that.

It's a damn shame they'll have to paint on ugly ass advertisements all over that beautiful turf. I remember when the ads on McMahon were at least monochrome. Now they're all in color and I find them really distracting and ugly. Not much much you can do about it, the teams do need that money badly.

Man. Those soccer lines on the field make it look kinda bush league. Beautiful stadium otherwise. (I know mtl and calgary have stiched soccer lines but theyre older facilties owned by universities)

Also never thought about having to paint over the rider logos for the grey cup. Good point

I still today stand my ground that IGF is equal to NMS. And the farther long it gets the more i prefer IGF. Those soccer lines are horrible but only 1 of many reasons why I give this one to winnipeg

The soccer lines look terrible but stadium wise Mosaic beats IGF IMO.

I'm with you, I don't see any reason why Mosaic Stadium should be regarded as better other than the fact that it's newer. In terms of scale and overall finish, I'd say they're pretty much on par with each other. There are some things I like about IGF (excellent canopy coverage, full bowl, jumbotrons at each end, distinctive arches above the grandstand) and things I like about NMS (translucent canopy, one really big jumbotron, tyndall stone on the concourses), but the differences are pretty marginal for the most part.

As for the soccer lines on the field... that's one thing I can't say I care about in the least. When I watch a football game I don't even notice the soccer lines on the field at venues that have them... it's like they don't exist. I guess I'm old fashioned that way.

You forgot about LED lighting, aerodynamic roof structure that mitigates wind by 50%, more than 58% of seats at NMS are below grade, much larger concourses, 8 balcony party decks, tiered party decks, general admissions lounge for 500+, 500+ monitors, more points of sale, more washrooms, mobile app that will help manage seats, provide video replays, and navigate people through the stadium, etc.
