Love this. Hopefully the twin Onni towers come into being soon, as well as the Shenzhen Hazens project to really fill out this part of town.

Also, that "plaza" and little strip of grass between the Convention Center and Figueroa needs to dealt with. It's a real waste of space.

So apparently our prayers are being answered? or somebody at City Hall has been scoping this page.

Apparently the sixth street bridge arches will in fact be saved for a park. Besides being attached to a new bridge somewhere else, I think that's the best way to save them (stay away taggers/graffiti artists)

Awesome. Thought that was a no brainier so I'm glad the city finally agreed.

I agree actually. I said it a while back that I liked Gensler in the beginning but now they are starting to become like TCA where they recycle the same design/layouts for their buildings. I mean, if that's not obviously Metropolis phase 1, just detached and plopped here with a tweaked design, I must be blind. That being said, I honestly don't hate it. I'm just still in shock that they were able to cram two towers there. It looks like a very tight squeeze. I actually would have settled for just one tower in an L shape.

Agreed. I'm glad they are being saved. I'm actually hoping they don't pull a fast one and throw it in with the Pershing Square redo. The arches deserve something a little better. And I had to correct myself. Only one of the arches will be saved. That 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵. there are sooo many parks in the area that could use a nice unconventional center piece.

Yes Urbanize has been attracting NIMBYs lately it seems. I have recently been getting the articles under sponsored posts on Facebook, even though I like the page. The comment section for the sponsored post on Facebook is different than the one that would just show up if you went to the Urbanize page. Anyways the sponsored one has a lot of NIMBYs sometimes. The recent article on the East Hollywood complex had a lot.

Wow!! Super exciting times. Thanks all for the pictures and updates. Keep em comin.

Also, for this complaining about the tower design... Most of these complaints should be proactively directed to city hall. Our architecture is the result of fire code and zoning ordnances that has our towers be boxy squares over podiums with flat tops

1. Tower cores are massive in LA(ending up in many box shaped towers vs variations of rounded or any other shape) which has developers wanting to maximize their more limited available floor space.

2. Parking minimums in the city brings about the podium towers

3. Helipad ordnance brings about flat tops.

All of these once upon a time were revolutionary code for building safety back in the day, but with advances in technology, many are no longer needed. Back in the day, The U.S. Bank tower tried to be the innovator around 2 of these rules. The rounded floor plates resulted in smaller available space and areas where the giant square corners of the core come very close to the boundary of the circular floor plate. parking is across the street under the library, no podium. And so we have a tower with higher vacancy that most others downtown.

How we can be the difference...
1. Advocate city hall and fire department to change the tower core requirements to allow Scissor stairs vs what we have now... Which will shrink the core size across the board tremendously

2. Demand parking minimums MINIMIZED

3. Helipad ordnance already fixed but not many are taking the bait... I wonder what's the hold up here

Blackcat; can you and Urbanize do a special on our current zoning code which has our buildings look the way they do so we can educate the audiences around the city. Maybe if we get the info out to the audience Ina way that's palatable, more people can/will get involved in the Re:Code LA process in a way that's forward moving

Wow, Thanks Mojeda great photos you gave us a gift hope those close by take you out happy upcoming birthday. Thanks for your time keeping things straight on the site front page, photos and all.
I really like the Palmer building how there shaping up, maybe he could a few more of the same on those large Main Street lots? Would have been a good fit next to the Examiner Bldg. to bad it was a small site.

Some news from the ground. Looks like Hanover has sold its new 7 story to another company. It has been renamed "South Park by Windsor." This could be good news in that usually when a sale happens they might be looking at building something else. Maybe another 717 Olympic or Hollywood Gower tower?? Fingers crossed

Great update, Mojeda. It looks like the Circa towers are finally starting to rise above the podium. Once they start hitting the 25-floor mark, they'll be pretty big skyline game changers.
