The AMS and KEF flights are 5 days a week + all year right? Not bad really. There is only so much O&D traffic to anchor flights to Europe, and it doesn't seem to be enough for two wide bodies a day.

Edmonton being a stop due to government intervention or range of aircraft isn't going to happen in the modern era. When I pulled the article from above, there was another about a potential Cathay flight, HKG-YEG-JFK, as 744ERs didn't have the range for a direct flight. The article stated that Cathay had wanted market assurance of 15 seats O&D from Edmonton on each flight. 15!! and the flight never materialized.

Granted, it is a different world 20+ years on, but still.

Now with their 77Ws, CX flies to JFK nonstop 3 times a day and once via YVR and once daily HKG-EWR.

Icelandair is 6 weekly in summer 3 weekly in winter.
KLM is 4 weekly in summer and 3 weekly in winter.

Market size when it comes to air routes isn't just population base but the amount of traffic from the origin AND from the destination. LAS and MCO are excellent examples of cities with a relatively small local origin base but is a HUGE destination base. Also, the ability to fill seats with higher yielding passengers (business travel) is a huge factor.

Now i will go back to sitting on my — and doing nothing all day along with all the other posters on here that haven't called up Tom Ruth.

Maybe Tom Ruth or Lynn Wyton can just answer our questions directly on here? "EIA" does post things on here sometimes. Who is the person behind the name?

This is a member of our communications team, and I mainly monitor forums like this to see what opinions people have about the airport, and what rumors are flying around.

A public forum isn't the place that we would post any kind of business strategy, but if anyone wants to actually email someone, many of the key contacts you'd want are on our website: http://flyeia.com/contact-us.

Talk to Carol, Adrian or Kirstin, and maybe they'll shed some light on our air service strategy.

Don't tell people about Nexus!!!! It's one of the best-kept secrets for domestic travel, let alone travel to the US.

I hope it does well. Several of their BC flights are very attractive for us

We'll see how the service is in about 4 weeks when we fly to YKA

Absolutely love that they charge for carry-on. i wish they all did that

^I wish them the best of luck as well, we desperately need a 3rd national....even if limited.

Carry-on is out of hand now due to charging for checked.

It looks like the inaugural NewLeaf flight to YHM was operated by a Canadian North 733. Replaced Enerjet?

^ I believe so.

YEG transborder gates right now: One completely unused, one has one flight per day, and three have two flights per day. Ouch. Full ghost town mode at the south end.

Like the Calgary office towers....shouid be a few thousand more people gone soon...and they will not be sticking around cowtown hoping for sunny days. Buzz is some firms may leave Calgary for the US. Makes sense to me if there is not much action in Canada. Seems struggles everywhere...not just at EIA.

But in Calgary they have seen an increase in overall flights at YYC whereas in YEG we have been decimated.

Funny how that works when the airlines are trying to prop your airport up because your a hub.
