Yes. The GA Dome is the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world. It was built in the era of the fabric-roofed stadiums (Carrier Dome, Metronome etc)...although not air-pressurized like the others. It really was quite an engineering accomplishment and source of local pride.
From a historical sports perspective, Atlanta would not be on the map without the Dome....no Olympics, Final Four Championships, Superbowls, bowl games, SEC Championships and numerous other events and concerts.
From a personal perspective, thousands of athletes and fans have many, many memories from competing in that structure, and are the minority who not happy to see it torn down...just because there is something newer and better, However, that is the city and country we live in....the US is known internationally as the "throw-away" nation. Seems pretty right on imo.
