I didn't even know it was a puffin (and I have one of those tattooed on me as well, lol). I thought it was a seagull. I was even wondering why that would ever be chosen as the symbol... lol

Lesbians are 'hot,' says controversial pro-oilsands Facebook post

I think this Facebook group should leave the oil sands promotion to professionals. This line of attack is quite bizarre.

Yesterday I even saw a truck with one in the shape of Labrador and beneath it "THE BIG LAND"

I like the shape of the Island of Newfoundland and the look of the NL flag. Both really stand out and make me happy when I see them.

No offence, but if it's the PW&G, it's not the "real" Newfoundland flag. But I'll agree to it's use as a fair representation of "cultural" Newfoundland, or "Newfieness". The problem is, we shouldn't actually have to ask which flag it was.

You see the Nfld & Labrador flag all over the place here in K-C-W. It is always the official flag, not the other one, which I suppose is not unusual for Newfoundlanders who have settled outside the province.

I had never seen and was unaware of the Nfld tricolour flag until SSP Canada.

I was however aware that they had a national anthem and a separatist movement of sorts.

the island shape is much more compelling than some tricolour flag.

Separatist movement. Wow, never heard of that.!!!! I didn't think that people in Newfoundland were any different than the rest of Canada. Never heard anything of their uniqueness on this forum

I agree, although it's accomplished the posters goal. You've posted it here, and I've replied, although I should have known better and let it be.

Yes, I have learnt lots about Newfoundland through this forum. The province I have actually spent the least amount of time in. Flown over it many times but just spent an hour or two at Gander when I was less than a year old when we came to Canada for a year on a sabatical for my dad. As a result, memories are kind of limited. Back then flights couldn't go much further into North America w/o refuelling at Gander. As we were approaching the runways my parents couldn't believe there was an airport down there.
