^The re-clad at 330 St. Mary is being done only at night, as to minimize disruption to occupants. I wonder if they are following similar principals for 360 Main. 9pm on a Saturday night is unheard of around here! haha

McDonald's has played in the downtown Winnipeg market and understands it well, to the point one of them used to offer office delivery by an employee on foot. Not sure if they still do.

In terms of 7/11 the challenge could be that if they are looking for someone local to own and operate the store. With high rents, the (real) potential troubles overnight and the on-going franchise fees it is easy to understand why someone is not rushing to sign up for that. That said, the Dreman building would seem to be an ideal 7/11 location. Close to a major bus stop and near the offices at Portage and Main. They could do a decent turn on traffic there, the question is would it be enough to actual make the operator a profit after the related risks.

I think part of why that Mac's is downtown is that they got rent for a crazy low price when Central Park was much worse than it is today and they have just been riding it out since.

Trouble? Most people living downtown are nice. I was offered a free drink in a heated bus-shack on Graham at 1am in the middle of January. I politely declined and continued on home.

I just can't see that there would be more problems downtown than on Mountain and Arlington, or Elice and Maryland.

^ From personal and work related experiences there are more problems in the areas you mentioned than the core, the incidents I've dealt with comparing the 2 is not ancedotal, the case files and numbers were as clear as day to me.

Yeah, I just can't see the night time issues as being a problem for 7/11,given they have stores in both of those locations.

As I mentioned earlier I think 7/11 does not run corporate stores. That would make the theoretical downtown 7/11 a franchise store. Someone would then need to cover the cost of the lease, staffing, etc. and pay the fees for the franchise name. The potential return on your investment of a downtown 7/11 compared to a different franchise in a suburb suddenly makes downtown very unappealing. Not so much from a personal safety issue but more on a potential income risk.

With the downtown population growing, I wouldn't be surprised to see one come along soon. Not yet though.

Wow! I can see a lot of potential there merely because of its' location, close proximity to future developments such as railside/parcel 4, 300 Main, SkyCity and present attractions. I wish this would spur development on the many, many surface lots nearby. I hope someone with a vision and deep pockets gets a hold of this building.

I know DT is full of surface lots, but wow that building puts that area into perspective - it's an island in a sea of surface lots!

But yeah, great location and views from an inconspicuous building!
