That was the project render off the CoE website Someone will likely post pics soon enough so we can see whats what...as in what was sold to the public and what we will actually be getting. Lets hope there are no gaps.

Imo having both directions of bike lanes be in the same side of the street is a pretty Terrible idea. Seems like In Europe they try to avoid that as it increases the potential for accidents from cars not looking both ways before crossing.

Can I ask a dumb construction question?
With the winter garden crane now removed, there's currently just 2 stationary cranes at ICE district, one for the hotel, one for Stantec. Will they manage with just 1 crane each, given that the COE tower used two stationary cranes? Do they simply bring more mobile cranes where needed?

My guess is that you will see another tower crane for the Stantec tower, but the JW is a very tight site so 1 might only be possible.

Another dumb question, after removing the crane, what do they do to cover the hole? Do they pour concrete in its place or some sort of dummy plate?

Typically, although not always, they will tie-in the area with rebar and concrete. All depends on the design for I have seen some used as shafts as well.

That is exactly what they do. fill in the opening. In the old days of construction the tower crane was placed inside the structure and had to be lifted out.

Hmm. Maybe only one crane but multiple climbing concrete pumps.

There will likely be two to facilitate moving the slab form work from floor to floor. Pulling all out one end of the building and feeding it back in one end of the building isn't that efficient on that floor plate size.

I agree it is very dark and think it somewhat "overbearing". I can't recall the original render - what details are you referring to?

COE tower looks very good. Unique in its podium and the glass being 2 toned is cool. Really good considering its a Govt building.

It's not a government building. It's a privately owned building that happens to have a public sector as the main tenant. Keep in mind that commerce place would not exist today without the sweetheart deal (in favor of the owner) signed by the Alberta government
