It may just be a temporary move to allow for renovations, just like the (temporary) move of Reitman's to the old Gap location.

A Thai Zone is moving in there. Heard it is going to be a numbr of small stores.

Awfully small footprint for a multistore building, but I was aware that Thai Zone was looking at a second location in the northwest end. I could see maybe a two unit building, with Thai Zone occupying one half of the building.......

I haven't had the opportunity to try in Dieppe but how does it compare to Thai Express?

Thai Express is much better than Thai Zone, I can't wait for them to open here. Ruby Thai at the mall is even worse. Thai Express is the best for a quick Thai lunch. Thai Express is also a better value and they have vegan and gluten free options.

My Costco source advised top dogs were in town recently...

They spoke with local management and said Day & Ross site is years a way from becoming feasible due to some restrictions...local management does not want to wait that long as the current situation is pushing them to the limits of the space and well beyond.

I can understand local management position but at the same time I don't want the city as a whole to suffer from splitting up retail development into far flung areas...the "Trinity/Mapleton/Plaza" area has built up so much and still has great potential...if Costco leaves they will draw out high quality players and leave massive void in the area

Day & Ross need to think really hard on this and realize if they push Costco to Harrisville it will only serve to de-value their property as that area will instantly lose clout in retail circles and beyond. They need to pull up their socks and make this deal happen...they need a new warehouse anyway, their place is ancient and falling apart! Look at M-O on Berry Mills now, D&R should be shooting for something like that...get moving!

I was thinking why not behind or close to the four points by Sheraton or even anchor for the proposed retail development at the bottom of the hill close to the Bell Aliant call center.

That's just my take and I agree Day And Ross would fit better in the Moncton industrial park or even in Caledonia. And can't the city redone that land from industrial use to commercial and force them to move?

I had asked someone who works there and that is what they had said... the site is a great location but was at least 3-5 years from being ready. Personally, I that regardless of Costco being there Day & Ross should move as it is becoming a heavily commercial area, lots of traffic, eventually likely more foot traffic, etc. and the last thing we need are trucks driving through it daily putting people at risk.

I was talking with a guy at Day and Ross last winter and he told me that Costco was interested to buy the Day and Ross site for $6M, but Day and Ross wanted $10M.

You would have to figure in the cleanup of the Day and Ross site before construction as years of accumulated diesel, oil etc from all the trucks would have contaminated the land and would need to be addressed, I would think.

The fact that Costco has already told their employees that they are moving means that the tire kicking stage is done they're just waiting to dot the i's and cross the t's before making an announcement. If the Day and Ross site is years away from feasibility than Harrisville Blvd is your winner.

If you think of it, this is probably the worst solution that could have happened.

Costco is moving out of the Mapleton area, leaving a big retail gap there. (While we mostly agree that staying is out of the question, it is a loss that will be felt)

As someone else pointed out, that area is shifting fast from Industrial to Commercial; which means D&R isn't going to want to stay there much longer. They'll have a move soon as well, which will leave a large, contaminated gap in the Mapleton streetscape as well. A spot that will probably be difficult to fill/sell. Even if D&R isn't contaminated, it is still going to be 2 big empty spots along Mapleton basically.

I wonder if negotiations are going to go on between D&R and Costco right up until the last minute? 10M$ vs 6M$ is a big gap to close, but the location would be best for Costco if they can snag it.

I was told by an employee from Costco that for sure it is Harrisville where they will be relocating to.

Still no indication how this building will be subdivided, or who the tenants (officially) are going to be, but Thai Zone is rumoured to be one of the tenants.
