Perfect time for a tall office tower to be built.
Interesting. I am unaware of how big office demand is in Atlanta..

This is the block in question by the way for anyone wondering: https://goo.gl/maps/WjKPsYHo3692
that's the old means street neighborhood; those buildings date back to the 1800s. if they tore them down i think a lot of people would be very pissed. i wouldn't be surprised if it's another mixed-use development like white provision, because that whole street in there has so much potential; it's like a little neighborhood that is entirely 1800s brick buildings, looks a bit like the goat farm.

I saw the midtown one tonight, they must be getting close they were putting up fencing around the property. Nice to see both of these architecturally diverse buildings moving forward.

Yeah me too. I thought when they were pitching GE for BOA, there was a lot of space there. I guess technically that's downtown, so maybe midtown is totally different.

The permit is for consolidation of 4 lots, but the only parcel listed is 14 00810011008. This is a small parcel that is basically the parking lot in-between the engineer's bookstore and the building next door (with Satto and Wing Nuts). The Engineer's bookstore is it's own parcel, and so is the small one story building behind it. Oddly, the big building there appears to be split across two parcels. So it could just be consolidation of a relatively small area on the corner of Marietta and Means.

A permit was filed to build 3 townhomes behind Broadstone Midtown in that plastic surgery office. (165 6th st. NE)

That's good news...those brick buildings need to be preserved wherever possible. The one with Wing Nuts and Satto Thai, the H.B. Davis Building, was built in 1921 and converted to the Hotel Roxy in 1939; it's currently retail on the first floor and apartments on the 2nd and 3rd. Apparently Marietta Street was once lined with brick buildings like those but only a handful have survived.

Developers pitch 74-story Midtown Atlanta tower

Olympia Heights Management's Avraham said the building may soar to about 920 feet, ranking behind only Bank of America Plaza as the city's tallest tower
As designed, the tower would feature 382 luxury condos, 180 corporate suites and ground-level retail.OHM Atlanta will call the project 98 Fourteenth Street and wants to break ground as soon as it receives approval from Midtown and city of Atlanta officials.

I sure do like the height but my initial reaction is that of being underwhelmed...I was really hoping for something more dramatic.
Observations: In the last rendering it almost looks like they took the original Arquitectonica twisted-top design and added a curtain wall to it. The corners look to be a carbon copy of 1180 Peachtree.
Will the (alleged) 2nd tower go to the west of this one?

98th & 14th

At the top of the building - where the glass is removed - the floors taper inwards and it almost looks like they just added glass sheathing to the original Architectonica design.

Strange similarity?

Over-all design looks nice though.
