Solid. Looks slightly similar to the current U/C McCleary School condo conversion in L-ville.

I don't think anybody posted this rendering yet for this #1 Cochran Audi building to be built, I believe on Liberty Ave in The Strip District.

http://www.bizjournals.com/pittsburgh/ne...ran-to-open-new-80-000k-square-foot.html

I think this is the approximate location: https://goo.gl/maps/Gi9jnuyqFGT2 EDIT: Of the service & collision center. The above rendering seems to be the showroom on Liberty Avenue.

I'm actually a bit surprised it sailed through zoning, given it's multi-unit in an area zoned R-2. I guess Bloomfield doesn't have many NIMBYs, what with all the renters there.

I don't think that's it. The Hill District appears to be in the background (with some lighted road even further up the slope), which suggests we're looking at the intersection of Liberty Avenue with something. My guess is here, based upon the rendering.

Edit: Nevermind, that's the location of the showroom, which is what is shown in the rendering. No pictures of the service center it seems.

I was thinking the same thing but the article says it's the Wilson-McGinley warehouse which is listed on their website as:
123 36TH STREET
PITTSBURGH, PA 15201

And it said it's in Lawrenceville.

I think actually the article must be showing the rendering for a showroom to be built on Liberty Ave while the article is actually about a service and collision center in Lawrenceville.

Thought this was interesting in light of all the recent discussion about how the shift in auto technology will have an effect on local infrastructure. It seems Tesla has reached out to Sheetz (headquartered in nearby Altoona) to be a partner in establishing charging stations for its cars in the region. Sheetz has been relatively innovative in their business model, so this could be an interesting partnership.

Quote:
Sheetz executives confirmed to the Washington Post that the company has been talking to Tesla about a partnership that would enable the electric car manufacturer to place its proprietary fast charging station at some of its locations. A Tesla spokesperson wrote in an email to me that it is too early to say which brands or stations would receive the Superchargers and when, but indicated that prospective stations would be “conveniently located for long-distance, emission-free travel, and could provide the necessary amenities for our customers.”

The key word in that statement is “amenities.”

Tesla is also going to be building it's first actual dealership in the Pittsburgh metro in Marshall Twp. Until now they have just a storefront in the Ross Park Mall apparently.
I have certainly seen a couple dozen different Tesla Model S's around the city. There is definitely some good interest.

Great news. Will be the closest Audi dealership for me. Looks nice. That spot could use something modern and upbeat. Now if they would only clean the sidewalks in that area of the Strip.

That store in the mall just opened up last month. Also, I believe the location in Marshall Twp is going to be a store/service center. Tesla doesn't have any dealerships.

Ahh, ok I think you're right. I meant a physical lot selling cars. I guess dealership indicated something else. It is actually an old Ethan Allen furniture store building. It could open by end of 2016.

They started with a kiosk in Ross Park Mall & then upgraded to the storefront in the mall.

This isnt really development related but Anthrocon was just held again this year at the convention center and there was 7300 people in attendance and its expected that everyone dropped about 7 million dollars into the downtown economy this weekend, which is a pretty big deal.

POT_6863 by photolitherland, on Flickr

DSC_4014-2 by photolitherland, on Flickr

POT_7322 by photolitherland, on Flickr

These are stats by year as to how much money con goers have spent in Pittsburgh.
2006 - $1.9 million
2007 - $2.5 million
2008 - $4.4 million
2009 - $3.6 million
2010 - $5.7 million
2011 - $5.7 million
2012 - $4 million
2013 - $6.3 million
2014 - $5.5 million
2015 - $5.7 million
2016 - $7.0 million?

Which is all very good news, as it shows that Pittsburgh can attract other conventions and in turn it helps attract more hotels to downtown.

Eastside Bond over 60% leased, will be completed by September. I noticed recently that the middle building in the development seems to be totally done now (minus the retail space), with many residents already moved in.

I am very personally frustrated however that even though the bike locker area has been done for over a year it's fenced off since that general area is still being used as a staging location for construction equipment for finishing up the final building. It makes it clear the developers saw the bike parking as a total afterthought.

The furry convention was awesome. The parade specifically is a site to behold. It lasts for over an hour. I recommend to anyone who missed it this year to consider going next year. It is a very unique and upbeat experience.

qkArchitecture has won the ideas competition held by the Mount Washington Community Development Corporation during Next 3 Days Hilltop to generate interest in a four-acre development site in the Boggs/Bailey Business District. Just a few minutes walk from the Mon Incline, the area has floundered as other areas of Mt. Washington have flourished.

...

qkArchitecture’s submission, “The Bend @ Boggs + Bailey,” proposes key connections on Mt. Washington with The Skyway—a sky-trolley that runs on steel frames that line the street with a bikeway on top. This project is definitely “in the ideas realm, not reality,” notes Blasko. It was fun for the architects to imagine what “could be” at the site without zoning constraints, or the practicality of expense.
http://www.nextpittsburgh.com/city-design/qk-architecture-wins-competition-boggs-bailey/

Obviously a pie in the sky plan, but I do hope it accomplishes the goal of attracting interest to redeveloping the Boggs and Bailey corridors.

I walked by the former Saks building site and Mcknight was advertising a rendering with just a parking garage, with "500-something parking spaces and 22,500 sq.ft of retail" written underneath. No mention of apartment units. Is it just a garage development now or is there a second phase for the residential?

2nd phase is the residential units. Hopefully won't be long after for them to start phase 2.

I noticed this over a month ago and took a pic of the ad on the fence to post to the site, but then I thought to myself we all knew this was going to be what really happened so I didn't bother.

Funny i just saw this article from the Post Gazette earlier today that highlights an urban vineyard as one of the ideas. An interesting concept that actually could further enhance Mt Washington as a tourism and special occasion destination. Would be cool to get off of the incline and walk a couple blocks to winery. http://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/dian...ggs-Bailey-corridor/stories/201607040001

As was projected for years, Pittsburgh's hotel boom is over. The ones now under construction are likely to be the last ones we see for years.

It seems from the article that the main issue is with the hotels in Washington County but the way that it's written, it's hard to tell how the ones in city are affected.
