Definitely not capped.

Edit: Maybe that shitty deck they built over top of where the south block of the Bow was supposed to go will be a blessing in disguise after all. Makes for good photo updates.

It may not be a tallest but 707 5th is my favourite tower currently going up in Calgary.

Telus Sky will easily be in my top 3 list also.

It does look kind of cool. I'm still excited to see how the crown lighting ends up looking.

It's funny because all of our nicest stuff seems to get built during a downturn. The Bow and EAP were the last big examples but there were others from the past like Banker's Hall and the Petro Canada building. Today we have Telus Sky, 707 5th, the new Library and National Music Centre and of course Brookfield Place. In spite of how quiet it's been on the forum lately I forget how spoiled we are. I am jealous of your new Arena in Edmonton though and the Ice District looks very promising.

Lol at my phone typo. Time to get a new phone. My screen cracked when I dropped it on a ferry this week and it's messing up all of my texting.

That reflects how long it takes to built a tower and the nature of Calgary's economy. None were started during a downturn.

1.Brookfield
2.EAP
3.The Bow

????

The Bow is easily Calgary's best architectural statement for a skyscraper. The rest of the recent builds which consist of both good and bad are all anonymous examples of corporate architecture.

Not necessarily applicable here but, is brought up frequently. Same goes for the Library and NMC. Putting them both in the same sentence is taking away from the exceptional quality of the Library. It's good and compares well to the rest of the nation but, NMC is really just about the cladding.

So is that list just towers completed during a downturn rather than your top 3? Just confused cause you say the Bow's the best but list it third.

I think Studio Bell / NMC is much more than just the cladding. Very excited to visit it. Photos I've seen of the interior look impressive. I hated the original design but really like the newest version and how they carried the core idea of it being built like a pipe organ or something through to the end.

I moved on from your post to another. The "????" is me questioning the other's Top 3.

To each his own. I don't care too much for the massing particularly the incorporation of the historic hotel. There are some great interior spaces but also some gloomy, cramped spaces. The cladding is what elevates the exterior but, cladding can only take the concept so far.

Yeah, the original concept was bad. The design became more like the heavy S+P design but, with significantly less grace.

One Bloor - 258 meters

Looks like they are shipping in the glass from China one floor at the time.

Not really - just because it's not installed doesn't mean it's not there.

And by the way - it's all in Toronto - I've seen it

The Chinese manufacturer has plants around North America including the Toronto area (or is it Montreal?) Is it actually being shipped from China or is that only an assumption because the manufacturer is Chinese.

I would guess locally produced would still be cheaper than to transport it from China. This is a condo tower afterall.

Didn't I say about 2 or 3 years ago Brookfield would be finished before One Bloor?

Looks like I'll be right...
