Drove by last night, looks just gorgeous! absolutely love the cladding.

Amazing building inside and out. Great to have it in Calgary. I went to the opening on July 1 and it was busy! A lot of interest from the crowd that gathered and it seemed everyone was thourougly impressed. I didn't notice any recognition toward the tragically hip which I thought was strange. I could have possibly missed it as there was a lot to take in.

Was hanging out in the East Village yesterday afternoon with the family, we popped in around 4pm to check it out briefly, going up to the front desks and looking up...daaaaaamn. Can't wait to actually go and check it all out.

"A lot of interest" is an understatement... when I got down to EV on Friday (around 11am) the lineup to get in was absolutely massive!

I'd say go now, people at the desk said July 2nd was about 5000 visitors and yesterday was only around 500 or so. I actually thought they were only open on July 1st as a one-off before fully opening later on, I had no idea they were fully up and running now.

For those forumers who have had an opportunity to go down and check out Studio Bell, I would encourage you to do the following:

1: Write a brief review of your experience on TripAdvisor. Like it or loathe it, TripAdvisor seems to be the #1 place most tourists check to figure out what to do while visiting a city. Currently the National Music Centre is ranked as #66 of things to do in Calgary... behind such amazing must-sees as the Conversation Sculpture on Stephen Ave (#31) and Market Mall (#45). With the busy tourist time of Stampede just around the corner and Studio Bell located so close to the grounds, it would be great to get more national/international visitors to check out... especially since there will be a live music program offered at the King Eddy for the entire duration of Stampede.

2: Suggest a couple of edits to the TripAdvisor posting. I have no idea the critical mass of changes that TripAdvisor requires before editing a listing but of the 3 changes I suggested only the opening hours have been changed. Other helpful edits that others may also want to suggest are:
A: Changing the name of the listing from National Music Centre to Studio Bell - National Music Centre of Canada to reflect the official name and the fact that most of the marketing and signage will now refer to the building as Studio Bell.
B: Updating the address to the new address as currently the listing shows the old Cantos address and even makes specific reference to it being on the second floor of the building.

Can't wait to check this place out myself one day soon. By the sounds of it, it really will be a tourist venue that Calgary can be proud of and will hold its own on the world stage!

Looks amazing! the King Eddy actually goes fairly well with it, really glad they didn't paint it white.

Just a hunch but I think they should put more bike parking near it. East Village in general needs more, racks around Simmons are usually full on nice days.

Maybe around the NMC they could have some fun with the racks and do custom ones with a musical theme?

Saw a story on it this past weekend, congrats Calgary, she looks like a beaut and certainly will be a wonderful asset to the City and Province.

Good question, might have to use a pressure washer that they just stick through the holes...

I was wondering the same thing. I gave my grandma from Quebec a choice between seeing this and the zoo today but I couldn't really tell her much about the exhibits at Studio Bell so we're going to the zoo instead. I'll have to nerd out another time.

Would love to see the building but at $64 for the family that is not going to happen unfortunately.
