Did you happen to see how progress is coming on the Plaza 500? The tower still seems quite dark at night.

There's still a lot of work going on at the old Plaza 500 building. It seems to be active and progressing, slowly.

Thanks!

Thought they'd use precast concrete panels for The Spot -
I wonder how it'll turn out being framed?

Awesome update Mcminsen, are they getting any interior fittings done yet on Plaza 500?

On the other side of 13th from The Spot, the Langara Apartments building from the 20's is getting renovated too, i think it's getting an additional floor on top but i can't remember now and i can't find the development application anymore. It's to the far right of mcminsen's pic, 2930 Cambie. Hows progress there?

Sorry, I don't' know how the interiors are going in Plaza 500.

2930 Cambie is coming along. When I walked by the front door today they were just pouring a new cement floor in the entry. And what really hits you is the musty funky smell. When you open up something that old it gets a bit odorous. Here's a pic from today and further down a post I did about it late last year.

Ah thanks again! Maybe they will just be condensing some larger units. There's some great interior pics on the Goodman report of the building, the wallpaper in the front entry and hallway must be at least 50 years old! There's a pic of the steam boiler that's original too.

Any update on that? I'm still waiting to see if any of the original tiling is under the brown steel and hopefully i can salvage a few chunks.

Seems wasteful to demolish such a large building and not integrate it into the new development.

Maybe the cost of renovating it up to current code and market standards is too high.

Vya and Duke are both well above ground now. Last pic is the back side.

Here are two renders for PortLiving's project on the south side of Broadway, between Carolina and Fraser streets. It's called Midtown Modern, which makes it the follow-up to their project, Midtown, at the NW corner of Broadway & Carolina.

I like that, but I thought spiral staircases were not allowed in the building code?

Both of these projects were completed earlier this year.

5555 Dunbar, developed by Omicron and designed by Rositch Hemphill:

Ellis (East Blvd. and W. 44th Ave.), designed by Wensley Architecture. This one is actually concrete. Can't help but think that it could have been a far more interesting design without the mandated penthouse setback:
