So for a whole 5 weeks, Westjet adding more flights from YVR-YWG and YVR-YEG. Just in time for the rest of the peak summer. In addition they are launching YEG-YHM and YLW-YWG.... clearly in response to NewLeaf's announcement.

Edit: Westjet says YVR-YEG going to 54 flights per week but that was the planned schedule anyway so not sure what they are on about. YWG definitely increases by 4 flights per week from 20 to 24.

Love the looks of the 748! The raked wingtips, giant chevroned engines, and the upper deck that's essentially a 737 being given a piggyback ride; incredible. Thanks for posting the video.

At one point, not so many moons ago, the 747 was considered more or less on its way out. This new version is impressive, and if it's good on fuel range, means more life for the 747 !!

The 747-8, although impressive is a dead duck, only 40 of the passenger versions ordered since offered in 2005, Lufthansa with the most at 19, the A380 is the clear winner here with almost 10X the orders and even A380 is suffering with slow sales. The VLA aircraft category has been a challenge, airlines have preferred highly efficient twin-engine planes like the 787, 777, A330 and A350's as with ETOPS, there's been little reason to go with large 4-engine planes.

Any thoughts about the new airline startup GoLeaf?

Do you think they offer competition? They're pure no-frills like many European Airlines, or a few like Allegiant out of BLI.

They seem to be focusing on Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Kelowna, but they also have flights out of YXX ( Abbotsford ).

Looks like you can get a flight from YXX to YEG or YWG for $258 all-in ( plus luggage fees, etc. ) Each segment costs $119.

So this may be a bit of a random question, but does anyone have insight into some odd departure activity yesterday (Sunday June 26th)? Specifically, between 3:30 and 5 I saw eight or nine identical small CRJs (or large private jets) without recognizable airline liveries depart YVR and fly northeast over the park where I was playing softball (approximately Oak and 41st). It may well have been the same jet doing touch and go training, but it was definitely odd and I don't think that there necessarily would have been time for the airplane to depart, circulate into a landing approach, land and then take off again based on the cadence of the overflights of the airplanes. It might be possible, but I'm doubtful. Does anyone have any thoughts?

That's it! That was the aircraft I saw on Sunday.

I didn't recognize the livery and it was too far away (and I was supposed to be keeping my eyes on the game) for me to read the writing on the fuselage. Mystery solved. Thank you!

A time when most airlines are charging for your first luggage, anyhow.

A time when WestJet isn't "really" a low-cost carrier, but rather an efficient alternative to Air Canada.

The difference is Greyhound Air operated a hub service in Winnipeg with a daily west-bound bank and a daily east bank.

Basically four of five aircraft would depart eastern Canada for Winnipeg. Arrive at around the same time permitting connection then depart for western Canada destination. The reverse would also happen in the opposite direction. I think it was Boeing 727 service. Pretty close to daily service. When laidlawy purchased Greyhound they pulled the plug on the service.

These guys appear to be flying from secondary airports to secondary airports with no real hub strategy.

Expect some positive news regarding:

Hainan to Tianjin (788s) - would be fantastic if this originates in Chongqing too.
Beijing Capital Airlines to Qingdao and Hangzhou (332s)

Most likely happening by the end of this year.

Stay tuned for updates.

Imagine.... 7 mainland Chinese Airlines flying into YVR.

That will also be 23 overseas passenger carriers flying into YVR as well. By far the second most of any airport in Canada except for YYZ of course! YVR will also most likely continue to be the fastest growing Canadian airport in 2016 as well. Both for overall growth and international passenger growth.

And there sounds like there may be more to come.... and not just from China perhaps....

My last post should be enough to keep us rolling along for the next few months.

Let's just say there are a few things in the works in different stages of development and Air Canada is not done with YVR either (mainline and rouge). Whether all, any or none of these developments cross the finish line...

These are usually for short to medium haul routes are they not? Maybe a couple of new routes to the USA, hopefully more.
