Talking about izakayas, is Guu on Thurlow still there? That was always my favorite one (and always felt the most authentic Japanese, a nice cozy hole in the wall).

There are signs of life now at what was The Mill Bistro and now (I presume) will be The Original Tap Shack. Better late than never I guess.

Looks like the Gutenberg's Café at Library Square has finally shut down for good.

Fable Diner will be opening soon in the Lee Building at Broadway and Main. It will be in the former Reno's Diner space. As I was waiting for the bus today I watched as they seemed to be having a staff meeting inside. I'll bet they do a soft opening soon.

Since 1995. They had a good run.

I went down to Harbour Green Park today and was happy to see all the tables and chairs out for the new Tap Shack. The park was busy but nobody was sitting there. I asked a young lady that was watching over the empty tables and she said they would be open on Thursday and that they are still training their staff right now. I asked her if there might be a soft opening and she said no, they would just open right up on Thursday. Just in time for the long weekend.

Oops just saw this. Yeah they're staying, already completed renos and re-opened. Looks good. Similar to this style:

My understanding was the Keg is going underneath the towers at the corner of Taylor Way and Marine (where the old White Spot is) but that project seems to be forever-delayed.

Yeah I saw that it is finished now. It looks like the Keg is going in across from Trattoria in the same building as Urban Outfitters and Yyoga. They have started working on the empty space.

The Grantree Furniture store at 11th and Main has relocated, i presume because they got priced out. That's a large space (in a character building), so i wonder if there'll be a chain restaurant moving in. Cactus Club for example, which have a fine staff and these places are actually pretty nice.

I'd be surprised if some enterprising soul wasn't chomping @ the bit for that location.

Most of the bar/restaurants along Main are pretty much chains anyways, disguised as independents. Cactus Club or Earls would be a nice option along Main, though that particular intersection may not be prominent enough.
