I'm honestly surprised. This team was out drawing BMO's capacity just 3 seasons ago. It will catch on I just thought game 1 would definitely be a hit

They did outdraw last seasons Rogers Centre attendance average (17k avg over 5 games) by nearly 45%, so that's not too shabby. Some might take that increase in numbers year over year and project that the Argos would need a 75,000 seat stadium in 3 years time! I won't do that however.

I think there is a cautious optimism over the Argo experience at BMO. I would think it's not unrealistic to think that the attendance figure could trend toward capacity as the season goes on. TSN certainly went all out to try to paint the experience as appealingly as possible. The team itself can help build on that by making a statement in their upcoming 2 consecutive road games (@Sask, @BC). Unfortunately, the next two Argo home dates are on tough nights (Wednesday and Monday) so they do have their work cut out for them.

TFC still gets first dibs on dates, and since they have to have a certain amount of time to switch the field over, the Argos just kind of run out of luck I suppose.

Much had to do with the construction schedule, and accommodating TFC starting their season earlier than the Argos, it will be better next year. Also TSN requires teams to play on Thursday and Friday nights (aside from Saturday) so they can have as many nights of a good rating as possible.

They also wanted that game to have much of the focus in Toronto and not have much competition for the opener.

It took time for the franchise to falter and it will take time to rebuild. The owners have done everything right, they just have to see the job through. The next home game will be a tough one on a Wednesday, if they can make it through that, they'll be on their way.

There's also the issue of the 9-team league. With that, and the way they've arranged the schedule and bye weeks, there still is a need for one of the schedule weeks to have 5 games - meaning one team has to play twice in the same schedule week

To date, that team has ALWAYS been Toronto, resulting in a weird Tuesday or Wednesday night game. As elly mentioned- next year may be better as there will be more available time at BMO for TFC in the Spring.

I think they give it to Toronto because Toronto can play at home and in Hamilton in the space of 5 days without adding any travel time or fatigue to the mix. It's not like having BC play at home and then travel to Montreal, or even Calgary, to play 5 days later. Of course, they could also give it to Hamilton but it works best to use the Monday Labour Day game as the second game in the "bonus" week and that's always in Hamilton (so unless you had two home games in 5 days in Hamilton you couldn't have the first game there as well - which means it would have to be somewhere distant as it also couldn't be in Toronto, because that would make three straight games vs. Toronto - given that the post-Labour Day rematch is also a Tor vs. Ham game).

I guess they could also try to do the same thing with Montreal and Ottawa - maybe have the Labour Day Monday game be the second game of a home-and-home series between the two since there is no "rematch" game for them after Labour Day.

Pretty impressed that the Argos played on Friday and a rugby game was held in BMO on Sunday with no football lines. Not sure how they did it but it's great. Nothing worse than soccer and other sports with football lines.

They use Supaturf paint from Australia. Has malt in it for easier erasure.

They also leave the grass high for CFL games (players like it) plus the fact that half your paint is gone after a cut.

Why does BC Place have the adequate security capabilities to host an opening and closing Olympic ceremonies, but not a World Cup Final? Seems to me those are both about as big-time as it gets in world sports, and both the Olympics and World Cup naturally come with huge security/defence spending.
