I hope the day is fast approaching when we'll see this little patch of blacktop bite the dust. It would be cool if as Future Mayor suggested, it became the location for a new Zion's Bank Headquarters tower.
I would like to see a tower go on the corner and a new Cinemark or AMC movie theater for infill... They can rip down the buildings to the north of Beerhive... If they insist on keeping the current Zions building a new tower could be built on top of it... That building would almost fit in the lobby of 111... I'm sure it could be done.

I can't wait to see the update pics with that lobby glass installed. That is definitely where 111 stands out. There's no denying that from the street level, especially standing kitty corner, that lobby engagement is going to look tres chic.

My connection at Boyer said they will start construction on the 151 tower when they can get it 60% pre-leased. This is how they get financing. Said there is not much commercial vacancy downtown right now, and with 111 almost full, 151 is next in line. No one has pre-leased for 151 as of now.
Looking forward to getting CCH, Regent Hotel, and 151 off the ground.
These three buildings could all essentially be along the 200 S. corridor (or close to it), which will be nice in stretching the skyline in the East/West direction.

Yeah. It's not awesome that is for sure but I will take brick work over whatever the hell those concrete slabs were. On the bright side looks like they will be finishing road construction relatively soon. The end is near.

I know of a really good local chef opening a restaurant/bar and a Korean fried chicken joint that will knock everybody's socks off. Bar X guys bought the Eating Establishment in Park City so they dropped out of the Walker Center parking "overhang" space the RDA is trying to monetize on the south end. A bunch of rumors on the private parcels (back of Eva's bakery and Lambs) on the south end but nothing solid yet. The church won't allow for a liquor license so the food court/market the RDA wanted to put on the east side under the parking garage is dead. I'm expecting typical Mormon treats like ice cream, maybe a goofy soda bar that's all the rage in the U/C. Not talking crap here, I just want the Church to do something of quality on the east side.
I heard a rumor that the Lucky 13 boys were considering slinging burgers on Regent but that was a very rumory rumor. I just hope we get at least one solid bar placed on regent so it doesn't just die completely after 9 o'clock

I agree, they could have been a lot more creative with the upper levels. Once they establish the businesses at street level it should help a lot. In addition to a nice mix of business at street level, it's important to point out that the trees will go a long way in mitigating the harshness of those upper levels, particularly with the street being as narrow as it is. I imagine the trees they'll be planting will already be fairly large and pretty well established. I'm envisioning myself walking on this narrow street, with the businesses drawing my attention to the street level, and a canopy of greenery calming everything overhead.
As with Richard's Street, I'm again thinking the trees will be large enough to make quite an impact instantly.
Those trees are going to be hugely important on a street like Regent, with so much stacked parking. Give
them a just a few seasons of decent care, and that stretch of Regent St. will end up as a big asset to the city.

They should remove and use the trees from the parking lot where the Salt Lake County District Attorney's building is going. Those trees are already big.
I hope they would be able to reuse those trees as you suggest. I think though in order to achieve a similar and rapid effect as with Richards St. they'll need to plant nursery/farmed trees. The root system will have already been trained and use to it's immediate transplanted circumference. The soil outside the trained circumference of the tree's root ball will also be a remediated mix, that will encourage ideal root expansion.

Now that is an awesome photo update on many of the housing projects going on in and around Salt Lakes downtown core.

Knowing that just a few years ago most of these projects were going up in the 4-5 floor range, now we are getting more in the 5-7 and many of the new proposals are 6-7. I hope that is a good sign of possible 7-10 or higher housing construction coming here soon.

What they ought to do is level the ugly, damn thing, and put it underground. Start over with something much better for Pete's sake!
