Do you think the designs have changed from this, or it's just a different perspective than expected from the ground level? I count the same amount of "stepbacks" along the side in your photos of the construction as is shown in the renderings

I feel like the city should have gone after the mall rats before they did the homeless sweeps. As a group I feel like they have far less support in this city than the rest of the homeless population.

Isn't it the mall rats all of the "stop the camping ban" protests have really been about?

I think the mall rats are a different demographic than those who are supporting the camping ban protest. The camping ban most affects the crazy, drunken eldery person that has been camping at park and broadway for the last two year until the recent sweeps. They poop in the alley and get free lunches from churches and service centers around downtown. Generally living near them is unsightly and unsanitary, but not much more than a nuisance to your eyes and nose.

The mall rats are a group of young transients that stick to the 16th street mall. They are more concerned about not being able to sit on the mall than the camping ban. Most of them take their fashion cues from Kevin Costner's waterworld, and are a truly vile, abhorrent type of creature. They get off on threatening everyone in their vicinity that doesnt look like a cast member from waterworld and will rob you at knife point at any given chance.

Generally I think the homeless concerned about the camping ban are scared of the mall rats because the mall rats try to rob homeless people too.

Crude, but not inaccurate. The homeless are just poor, mentally ill, and/or some combination, and deserve our help and support.

The mall rats are criminals who should be locked up and/or terminated. And their parents too, if they exist, for being complicit.

Mall rats are the biggest problem facing 16th street mall, IMHO.

They are dirty — wooks (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wook) who moved to Colorado for the legal weed.

The sooner all of the mall rats get off of the mall, the better. I hate walking the mall and dealing with that —. I can only imagine being a young woman.

They are also the main reason in Denver for having a conceal carry permit IMHO.

OK, I haven't been to the mall in years. I fully admit I may not grasp the scale of the problem.

But teenagers need places to hang out. At least on the mall they're sort of supervised. If we kick them off the mall they're not going to suddenly start dressing nicely and trying out for team sports. They'll take their nastiness underground, and it'll be worse for them and worse for the people they harass.

Bunt is always talking about how terrible it is that the city is turning into nothing but a playground for the rich, with the somehow undesirable parts callously swept aside. How would kicking the mall rats out not further that problem? Or do only priced-out potential homeowners matter?

I'm not saying kids should be completely free to harass people and turn the city's most-visited public space into a hellhole. Of course not. But I doubt the answer is to kick them out.

In my experience, these aren't kids. Watch the video posted earlier. They are adults attacking other adults.

Why not hire private security like Larimer Square or Cherry Creek Mall, or Union Station?

Add Commons Park to the list. Vulgar ratchet adults roaming, sleeping, camping, etc. I used to like things like, launching my drone there but now I just get approached before I even take off and get called, and I quote, 'an Illuminati spy' (whatever the hell that means) and get yelled at from a distance for taking pictures of them.

So I take 14th, 15th(honestly still better than the mall), and 17th through downtown. If I get to Commons, I'll cut over to 15th just so I don't have to deal with the riff raff especially if I have all my camera gear.

Super disappointing and sad.

Did you not watch the video. The security guard was just standing there watching with a smoke in his mouth. No one respects security. Has to be cops.

...

I can see it. You live in Denver. You've been to the New World Order airport. And you have a camera. Result, reptilian shapeshifter.

Yeah, I was a dirty high school kid once, who needed places to hang out. And I did it in public places where I wasn't always necessarily welcome. But I seriously doubt anybody felt they needed to carry a concealed weapon to be safe walking past me.

Crime in public spaces is not even remotely the same issue as unaffordability in the city. Frankly, I don't care if we have good public spaces, if your thinking is to provide a suitable play space for the folks who have to commute in 20 miles from more affordable climes to enjoy a big city experience. At that point, the better solution is to say f*** regionalism and have the suburbs start competing to create their own better play spaces. Denver doesn't need to accommodate me in my free time (and take my tax revenue) if Denver does see fit to make it possible for me to be able to live in its boundaries - whether that's as a renter or a homeowner.

I will actually be voting against SCFD the next time it comes up for a vote. Rich Denver no longer needs the subsidy. And I think it's time other jurisdictions start competing for facilities. Denver is the enemy of the region now, not the victim it once was.
