Update: Commercial–Broadway station upgrades
Quote:
Upcoming work means the Broadway entrance at the south stationhouse (beside CIBC) will be closed from start of service Saturday, June 18, while crews remove three fare gates to make space for construction of the expanded station entrance.

The entrance will reopen prior to start of service on Monday, June 20.

I like the white, but agree with you . . . good while its fresh: I just noticed how the main structural ring at BCPlace is already starting to look stained (crappy).

I called the procurement department Wednesday and the woman who answered transfered me to someone "Ian". Ian told me he'd see and call me back. I called the procurement department again Friday and they told me they had no clue, and I should call Graham Construction. I called Graham and was told to call the procurement department again. So I used a different number and it was the same woman who answered the first time, she transfered me to Ian again, but he was probably on a lunch break so I just left a message. Just now I got a voicemail from Translink's procurement department, saying that at this time it's uncertain.

From the extent of the construction in the Grandview cut at Commercial, it looks like they're planning to replace the existing pedestrian overpass as well. Which is good, but I don't remember that being mentioned in any of the project overview documents.

Are you sure they won't just be making a new support and expanding the passerelle rather than replacing it?

The name Ian seems to ring a bell with me. Was he the guy at Graham who you were being referred to?

Damn. Not the person I was thinking of then.
If I can remember, TransLink gave me the number of someone at Graham who at the time was on vacation in PAris, so I made the call to his cell very brief. He suggested I contact someone who was on-site whose name still eludes me. I almost wonder if knocking on the door of the Joyce/Metrotown site office and mentioning that you're stuck in a loop between Graham's PR department and Translink's procurement department might at the least yield you a name or a business card. If you actually get a lead on one of the Metrotown signs I might wanna talk to you over PM.

Wow - compare the diameter of the columns on Commercial Station compared to the new columns!

Since there is no elevator on the east entrance I wish they would have put in a "down" escalator. There is the space for that.

I am so tempted to start a group to lobby the government to install down escalators at all stations without them. Much cheaper then the lawsuits from people who fall down the stairs and die.

Down escalators also contribute to the obesity epidemic so they are equally as bad for people.

Expecting down escalators as prevalent as up is a little outrageous... and the disability argument group was quieted by the expensive install of elevators.

Seriously? How many fall down stairs, die, then sue our government?

They need to put up escalators in all the stations first - there are at least a few missing them (Royal Oak and one platform at Columbia).

You mean the many elevators that are tiny and packed to capacity at some stations? Fortunately I have my legs in working condition and don't have a baby (yet) so I don't really use elevators but I have seen lines to get on these elevators and it can sometimes be a long wait for seniors or those with wheelchairs and strollers.

It's almost as if many Gen X and Millennial think they will ll never age by their entitled behavior. Truth is, some of us will lose our ability to walk long distances in the future, suffer a fall or be reduced to using a walker or wheel chair.

With regards to the obesity epidemic comment... anyone who is taking Transit is probably doing more steps than anyone who elects to drive. Give your head a shake.

Waiting is just a part of life.
- you do it at the supermarket, the bank, at the office elevators (with a bank of 6 elevators!) and many other places.
