Obviously, a Canadian World Cup bid would include a massive renovation of Olympic Stadium in Montreal and/or a 70,000 plus seat stadium in Toronto..at least, I hope it would.
Russia is using all 45,000 seat stadiums for their quarter final games.

In terms of the interior, it's no contest - Rogers Place will be superior in every way - more features, wider concourses, more concessions and washrooms, wider seats with more legroom, open concourses, better finishes throughout the arena, superior locker room, therapy rooms, media rooms and offices, bigger scoreboard, more luxury amenities, an attached practice rink...whew, did I miss anything?
I understand this. If anybody thinks the Exterior of the MTS center is better looking than the Rogers center

It's too big for the CFL, and the race track hinders the pro football experience, as fans are further away from the action.

I can't really comment of the interior of the new Edmonton arena, but the exterior looks vastly inferior to the MTS Centre, hands-down. In fact, I like the Saddledome exterior better than the new Oiler arena. It looks like the Remand centre.

We were talking about it as a stadium in general in terms of interior architecture. Not its suitability to watching a cfl game.

If that were the case ivor wynne would be the best stadium in canada because fans were on top of the players, it was an avg capacity, and there was no "racing" track.

The MTS Centre incorporates the look of the beloved Eatons Building that stood for 100 years in that same location. It blends right into it's environment, and compliments the city scape.

The Edmonton arena looks like something off Star Wars, and sticks out like a sore thumb. I really hope the interior is nice looking.

How is it loco Black Star? Is there some scientifically, measurably way in which the exterior of one can be quantified as better than the other?

I do know they had to compromise on the cladding of Rogers Place some time ago -replacing the zinc-cladding with whatever is currently being used. I wonder how that would have looked compared to what Rogers is getting?

This looks different...

I still don't mind the cladding, but it's not as attractive as those renders as those probably had the original zinc cladding that had to be downgraded.

Just as an aside, some people prefer the curvy continuity of the lines of Edmonton's new arena...gives it a sexier, modern look. Others apparently do not.

Consider me crazy then.

Plus, the Rogers renders shouldn't be used as a basis for an opinion at this point... there's enough work done on the exterior now to get a good idea of how the finished product will look. Just like Quebec's arena and Regina's stadium - the renders are misleading and make it look much better than it does in real life.

Yeah....taste

Mmmm...not sure if its a big difference. Up close it looks amazing. When you are seeing it up close the finish looks great. Just not something Gort would have come out of.

^ Hey man, I was in there before most people

Interesting to hear the various opinions, though. I can see how some feel it may feel dated in a couple of decades, or may not age well, time will tell.

How well it blends in is up in the air, with nearly the entire neighbourhood around it still under construction. Since that construction is being built as part of the arena district as a whole, in the end I think it will blend in perfectly.

Saying it looks like "a gigantic heap of trash" doesn't feel like the most objective criticism of the design, though.

Saying the designers of Commonwealth could learn from architects in Toronto is a bit funny given that it is now one of the oldest, largest, and still widely used (and as far as CFL goes, well attended) stadium in Canada.

I'm so torn

I was really looking forward to exclusively roasting Mistercorperate for my first post in 2 months but Jets4Life stole my attention

Listen man, anyone here knows I'm the biggest fan of the MTSC and I agree it's a beautiful building that will age better than any NHL arena. But to call rogers place ugly before it's even built? come on man...and commonwealth? commonwealth is a 40 year old building that looks fairly relevant in 2016 you can not tell me you think it's ugly

^^Mistercorporate is paranoid about Prairie CFL fans actually caring about Toronto soccer by thinking they are posting on soccer forums of all things
..& I'm just assuming jets4life is trolling.

Rogers Place I'm Edmonton looks sleek and modern and Commonwealth Stadium has stood the test of time better than any stadium in Canada and it would likely host a Final for World Cup if Canada were chosen to host. I doubt Canada would host the Final in a temp stadium in either Toronto or Montreal and I'm not sure BC Place is quite large enough.

ok, Commonwealth looks fairly good, considering it's nearly 40 years old. I just wish they had kept the turf natural grass.

why? what does that have to do with the design? You mean to tell me the difference between CWS being beautiful and ugly is real grass vs synthetic. I feel like it's gotten better with age. Actually it looks better now than ever. And with the LED ribbons,Wifi system, new jumbotron and new sound system it's actually more advanced than most stadiums in the country at 40 years young. I hate that the feild is so far away from the stands. I wish they would make precasts to go over the existing lower bowl that would extend the concourse and bring the seats closer to the field and also scrap the endzone but keep n mind commonwealth was built for the commonwealth games and yes it seats way to much for the CFL. But you can't deny it's grace and beauty
