I called it about a month ago. It looks like since that time the cost has gone up by $2 million.

I can confirm that that is not the finish. They are actually doing some brick work on the east side of the building which I was pleased to see.

I'm so scared... but some of the tan finish on the north side doesn't quite look finished? I just wonder if perhaps it's a primer of sorts? I'm lying to myself... I know... but maybe?

I'm glad to hear that they're putting brick up somewhere, but are we sure how much brick, and if it's only for the east façade? Have they told you PusherMan more details of how much brick and which sides will receive what mix of materials? Even though that south side isn't fronting the street, the el cheapo looking tan stucco would be very noticeable. The renderings were pretty vague, as far as the material finish.

Liberty Crest is suppose to be an upscale project. Nothing says downscale more to me than tan stucco, even when it's covering the non street fronting sides.

I think that will be a huge benefit for the Fairpark. Bringing additional business, just from the Rodeo will help tremendously, especially since that is where they keep the animals for the rodeo anyway. This could bring bigger acts during the fair, not to mention the other concert opportunities it will bring. It will bridge a nice gap for outdoor concert venues between Usana at 20,000 and Red Butte at 3,000, plus the access along is hands down better than either of those. I think the $1 million is yearly revenue to be exceeded with the right marketing by the Fairpark staff.

I'm not exactly sure how the stadium would fit in, but I'm sure it could, but I think the SL Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Fairpark need to work closely together to get the fairpark utilized for the OR show, particularly the summer expo with kayaks, tents, etc. Give UTA a gut of all the registration fees and make UTA included with their OR pass. The stadium could be used for a multitude of functions during OR.

It has a very basic/classic look. The beams could slightly obstruct some views, but it almost reminds me of a historic baseball stadium from years ago.

I wonder what the dimensions of the field will be, and what other events could be held there other than a rodeo or concerts. I'm thinking high school soccer state championships, monster truck, etc

I thought the stadium was a Spanish bull-fighting ring at first glance. I honestly never thought that many people would actually want to watch a rodeo.
Which has me thinking: besides the annual rodeo, what else would this stadium be used for? There is the state fair, and also Future Mayor's great idea to combine it with the OR convention, but all those together are like three things. What else?

I just work near to the building and see the back side of it up close and personal quite often. That brown bit is some sort of MDF that is flush with the other particle board and will definitely be covered by some sort of finish. Will that finish be stucco? I sure hope not.

That's really the design? Every seat has a partially blocked view. When I read the article I just assumed that was some rodeo arena built in the 1950's that was being used by KSL...

The Liberty Crest project will not have any stucco on the building. The exterior materials are brick, cedar planks, glass and metal panels. I checked the plans myself this morning.

Think Monster Trucks and Dirt bikes, demolitions derbies. Anything Vivant and maverick centers did with dirt this place can pull it off.

As for size, a general rule is Rodeo grounds tend to be hockey size. No way you can do soccer there. If this was an in-closed facility you could get away with Volleyball basketball and Wrestling events there.

Outside of that, I do not know of anything else they could do there other than concerts.

I was listening to an interview on the radio with Jazz President Steve Starks about the renovation plans for Vivint.

He wouldn't give too much away until they announce it but did say the Jazz plan on extending the exterior of the arena out to add more restaurants to the building and hinted that these would be open almost all the time for business not just game day. The few other things he said was they will be adding new seats from top to bottom and never said it but hinted that suites would be added. The total capacity would only drop a few hundred seats.

My dream of them building a hotel or an extension or something on the south west corner seems to be dead.
