HD Supply starts work on $100 million HQ in Cumberland

Got to love these architecturally innovative suburban office developments.

Much more of a campus and much more open-- Hope they can do this or something like it sooner rather than later--

I know this forum encourages skyscrapers, but I agree. It would be nice to see a few Atlanta streets aligned with 3-5 story townhome/condo density. Would help make the streets more inviting and would support the upcoming streetcar expansion.

Yes and Yes. As someone who lives on this block, I'd love that. The Biltmore parking garage is an eye sore.

With that said, does anyone know how this sale affects the Biltmore condos? Are they two separate entities? I always thought the garage served the condos as well as being a public garage.

I imagine the condos are not included since they are fee simple titles in the hands of individual owners, though I am not sure if they have deeded parking or not. Novare developed these buildings didn't they? I belive they also have their offices in the Biltmore. I wonder why they sold.

I wonder how parking there worked, originally there was no deck just a green field

They were probably able to get by with just street parking when it was built in 1924. Something we could learn more from today :-)

Anyone else notice the following buried in the article: "Nonetheless, if constructed, the high-style would compliment the transformation of Colony Square that "is rumored to be kicking off tomorrow, catty-corner from the Woodruff Arts Center."

Any predictions/intel on what this "kick-off" will consist of?

1270 Spring St

Maybe I hadn't noticed until now the project seems to be in construction, but 1270 Spring St is fenced up all the way including the sidewalk on Williams. The project should compliment AMLI Arts Center, Arts Center Station, potential MetLife development, and help connect Midtown with Atlantic Station.

Edit: Coincidentally in today's paper- The first units will likely be available by March 2018, with the final completion expected to be early summer 2018. http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/morni...shores-closes-on-259-unit-multi-use.html

Why did you want the project to die? It's decent infill, has retail facing Spring St., and the big wall (which already exists) is only up against Williams Street's on-ramp to I-75. I do wish 15th would be extended to Williams during the construction of the development.

YES - a million times over. Connect the grid wherever possible in Midtown and Downtown. That is the way to relieve congestion and make the city more pedestrian friendly.

The old Dialysis building including Capstone Building?

Boy, this would be fantastic if that whole block brought down those two old West Peachtree facing buildings and, including the behind them parking lot facing Spring, went vertical.

Anyone able to please post an update - even if only soil sample work photos - of this ?

Thanks, all - Especially Shivtim !!

I wish they would extend it all the way back over the connector, and restore the full length of it, we could use another connecting bridge tying midtown to west-midtown, and Homepark could use the cross street.

I hope they don't tear down those old buildings. Midtown needs some type of historicism.

I was thinking the same thing...I think they are both two floors and don't look all that old or historic, but they are brick and seem worth keeping to me. Just need to make them active uses along West Peachtree.

Midtown Alliance has several street connectivity projects in their "tier 1" of projects - things they plan to accomplish within the next few years. The recent conversion of several Midtown streets from one-way to two-way is part of this plan too, and there are also plans for two more pedestrian/bike crossings over the connector. We're getting there, slowly but surely.

It looks like it will be an architectural snoozer on top of being a very small project for being 1 block from 14th.
