That's about right on target for the upscale burger market (Five Guys/Fatburger/Vera's) and we don't have In N Out in the area.. I think they'll do well enough.

The problem is the chain they're imitating is not upscale. Time will tell, I guess. The lineup is a good indication.

An indication that people in Vancouver are easily led and wallow in mediocrity?

Milestones in Park Royal is closed for renovations, and new restaurant Maru Korean Bistro on 2nd and Lonsdale is a must try IMO. http://www.marukoreanbistro.com

Slightly relevant and I know it's been talked about on here before, but I'm still amazed that the Chipotle on Howe has lineups out the door almost every weekday. It's been open what, almost two years now?

Is that for sure staying as Milestones? On the park royal website it says that the Keg is reopening and was curious if it was taking over the Milestones space or going in next to trattoria

Because nice things keep getting rejected by the naysayers. So the rest need to "wallow" in what's available. With that said: nothing wrong to be curious about what's new. That's the essence of youth.

There isn't much in that price range to munch in that neighbourhood. It's either fast food, cheap pizza or the higher end establishments. Hence Chipotle is so popular.

Yeah it's pretty crazy - are they looking to open any more locations downtown? The one at Metrotown is constantly rammed as well. Haven't been to the one in Guildford though. They seem to wait for the perfect locations to free up.

I just read that! A major blow to Robson street IMO.

That west end of Robson use to be the go to place if you enjoyed Japanese and Korean style restaurants / bars. Essentially, it was my old haunt (often at Gyoza King myself).

I am sure another bland major chain will move in, or nothing at all, again chipping away at the character of downtown.

Seriously, Vancouver is getting annoying with how bland its retail and dinning is becoming. Everything is a lame luxury brand store now (and seriously, how many local Vancouverites can go shopping at all these luxury stores anything near regularly?)

Huh? the west end of Robson is still absolutely the go to for Korean and Ramen. In fact I'd say there are more good spots now than when I started going several years ago.

Hapa IS that major chain... and it left!

Hapa was one of the first izakaya-type restos to establish there but I'm not sad. IMO the food was not that imaginative for fusion and kinda derivative for the Korean and Japanese dishes they had. As well the area is pure Darwinism for Asian food - they were being out-gunned by places in their price point (Kingyo, guu, jang mo jib) and even below their price point (excellent ramen shops)...

I was always surprised how busy it was. Interestingly enough I have not encountered almost any queues at their Metrotown location (which is conveniently right next to our place). Different restaurant market?
