The Trillium line will be part of the mass transit network, like Vancouver's. What I WOULD have been fine with is if the Bloor line ran to the airport, transferring at St. George. Of course the UPx stopping at bloor would have been absurd, as the whole point of that train would be to get people from the airport to downtown. The Trillium line doesn't do that however, the aiport is just another stop on the mass transit line.
But it isn't just another stop on the a mass transit line. They are building that spur specifically to serve the airport. If they can't do it right, why waste my tax money? And they are wasting it.

More cities build their airport stops on regular mass transit lines than build express routes. Toronto is more an exception than the rule. But in most cases, the trains go directly downtown. The examples I have taken are BART in San Francisco and Portland's MAX LRT. Tell me one North American city that is proposing an airport rail connection that requires 2 transfers to reach downtown other than Ottawa?

The current plan is like dumping you at the Georgetown Go Train junction and make you transfer to a GO train that doesn't go to Union Station but makes you transfer again a couple of km short of the station.

Ottawa's plan is a garbage plan that cannot possibly work reliably with the trunk route attempting to operate with a single track.

Not the best example, perhaps.

Yeah! The entire line has pretty low ridership, and premium revenue (mostly from the airport being charged a higher fare) is lower than predicted.

Sounds like UPX doesn't it? They overestimate what they think they can charge for airport service and as a result, most people won't use it.

You can toss Newark into that list. Airport people-mover to train station, then you get dumped at Penn Station, and will want to take Metro to either the financial district or Times Square. So, not only is it 2 transfers but it's 2 separate fares too.

JFK is't quite as bad for some trips but many trips require Red Airtrain to E line or a LIRR, then a transfer in Manhattan to your actual destination (Wall street for example is 2 transfers and 2 different fares; LIRR and 3 Line).

Of course, nothing beats Laguardia though the new express bus to Jackson Heights that replaced the Q33 is much faster.

Ottawa should be able to do better; though so should NY.

Both of Shanghai's airports have standard Metro access (with no extra fare for getting on at the airport, I might add), which provide access to downtown without the need for a line transfer, although you do need to do a cross platform transfer on the same line when coming in from Pudong as 8-car trains don't go all the way out to the airport.

The Maglev is pretty useless, IMO, as it drops you far outside the city centre and is more of a curiosity at this point.

So cool to see these. Very excited to see which company will build the trainsets (hopefully not Bombardier).

Are they planning for pedestrian access to that bridge? Do they expect people to want to walk across it? My rough Google Map calculation has the current Champlain bridge crossing (Ile des Soeurs to South Shore) at 3km.

I know it's just a rendering, but there doesn't seem to be a lot separating pedestrians from Autoroute traffic there. Maybe it's just me...

and are they rebuilding the estacade I wonder. I love biking across it, I hope they rebuild it.

The bridge: it looks cold and sterile. Shame.

There was a sinkhole on Rideau St. today. Probably related to the Confederation Line (they're woking on a station in the area), but I'm not certain.

Massive sinkhole on Rideau Street in Ottawa. The major Rideau and Sussex intersection in downtown Ottawa is closed. The Rideau Centre shopping centre and neighbouring office buildings have been evacuated. Transit routes have been rerouted. This is the location of the Confederation Line and the sink hole opened right next to the station excavation for the Rideau Station. It is believed that the sinkhole may get much bigger and there is a potential threat to neighbouring buildings.

Imagine that you spent millions on a new LRT station and it fell into a hole....

The details are still unknown, but the sink hole may have been caused by a water main break that just happened to be at the station site. In other words, the sink hole appears to be above the station and tunnel. But, we will wait and see the extent of the damage.

Fingers crossed - you could see the water gushing from the broken pipe in the video. And fingers crossed that with the water under control (one hopes) the risk to the neighbouring structures is under control.

Early rendering of the A-40 intermodal station between the REM and the Mascouche commuter rail line.

Sorry for the poor quality of the picture.

Of all places I wouldn't expect a sinkhole it's downtown Ottawa. Ottawa is built on solid rock.
