I wouldn't want to have to get a car out of a deep residential parking space on Boxing Day or during the Christmas shopping season
- i.e. circling for a bit - then hitting the equivalent of the Metropolis parking garage before getting to the street.

Ideally, you'd live in a smaller development a block away within easy access, without the hassles.

If you think that's bad, at my last job I had to go down 12(!) floors to get to my parking spot. Our office building was built beside a cliff, and the entrance was on floor 14. The bottom floors were parking, so my parking spot was on floor 2. Spiral ramp all the way down gets you dizzy.

Luckily there was an exit at the bottom, so the long drive was only on the way in. I still don't understand why they didn't put an entrance at the bottom as well.

I think 1111 Richards/8X on the Park will have ten floors of underground parking.

It's a complex podium and quite large. That and the first bits are far more complex than just a regular tower. Much like other mixed projects of this type on the region, it will likely not be super quick for the first bit until they reach the cookie cutter floors then pace will pick up. 2018 isn't that far away anyway. 2 years basically for towers this iconically high and important in the region seems fair.

I understand, just as someone who lived in that area almost his whole life it really is exciting to see it finally be all done.

But I do seem to remember being told the first tower in 2017 oh well might just be imagining it.

They must have one hell of a project office inside the Zellers space that isn't taken up by the sales center.. the mind boggles at trying to organize such a complex project that is the podium here.

Thanks for the pics!
That parkade entrance almost makes it look complete underground.

Completion dates are always pushed back - sometimes multiple times.

Thanks for the great pics!

I live roughly a few minutes away from Brentwood. When I looked south six months ago I could only see the crane for the second SoLo building and nothing from Brentwood. Now, the second building is clear to see and I can make out the cranes at Brentwood. I am excited for the transformation in the area. Sometimes, I go for a walk around the site just to see what has changed since the last time that I went there.

As for the delay I imagine that creating an underground parkade and foundation that large for three buildings takes quite a bit of time and planning, hence why it is now pushed back to 2018 for the first tower. It is a gargantuan project, something rarely seen in Vancouver.

I am always interested in how these projects are planned. Does anyone know why one section is started before another? What considerations are taken into account in the order of completion for each section?

The parkade and podium look similar in size to the Marine Drive Gateway project, which seemed to take an eternity to complete.

Here's a few quick Phone pics I took today. The forms have been removed from the large pillars near the corner of lougheed and willingdon.

Ya, I've been looking at the renders and none of them show the pillars being huge. I suppose this is one of those cases where the engineering required wins out.

The columns may be hidden behind stepped retail cubes once built-out:
