Can anyone make out what the sign says to the left of the P.E. car?
I don't recall seeing one of those triangular "Car stop" signs before,
hanging in the air, either, though maybe I just didn't notice.

I don't know, E_R, but thanks for locating the site. Those photos on there are really superb!

One last 'mystery' location for tonight.

http://www.ednasantiqueshop.com/hollywood_boulevard_trolley_line.htm

I especially like that we get a good glimpse of the driver (with the sun shining on his face)

He looks rather young and handsome.

Mystery Location #2

That's an easy one, car is turning off of Sunset Blvd. to go down to Glendale Blvd. and enter there the tunnel to the Subway Terminal.

It's a bit difficult to read, but I believe the sign on the trolley stop below says Sunset Avenue.

old file / (there's a good possibility we've seen this before on NLA)

This stop comes with a garage.

So how many of these small stops were there on the Venice Short Line / Trolley Way? (I'm still looking for a detailed map)

I enlarged the Ray Younghans map to make it easier to see.

According to a map I just looked at, there is a Rose Avenue in between Sunset Ave. and Pier Ave. seen on the map above, so my guess is that's where it was located.

Has this been noted before? If not, take a look at it.

It's called: The Militant Angeleno's Pacific Electric Archaeology Map

He notes surviving Pacific Electric Railway artifacts, like track and track remnants, P.E. stations as well as PE-inspired public art and surviving Red Cars.

It's all done on overlays of Google Maps where you can click on the areas that bring up locations and pictures. You can look for the Pacific Electric Routes and click on one you're interested in (like the Venice Short Line, for example) and it brings up the map with an overlay of the line where it used to run.

Enjoy!

PE 5151 is westbound entering Hawthorn Ave. at Poinsettia Place. It has just traversed the private right-of-way from Hollywood Blvd. and La Brea Ave., which is marked by the car in the distance. (Post-abandonment, this right-of-way was paved and now is known as Marshfield Way.) The car will continue on Hawthorn for two blocks to Martel Ave. before entering another stretch of private right-of-way that will take it southwesterly again to Sunset Blvd. and Gardner St. (Gardner Jct.). According to the dash sign, this car will be turning back at the crossover there (see Martin Pal's photo) rather than continuing on to Beverly Hills.

1912 - Source identifies images as "Bungalow Land" typical homes on 3rd Avenue, Venice CA. Perhaps someone can connect these 100+ y/o images? How close to the Venice Short Line ?

The Blue Dot, 1235 Vine St, Hollywood

I just came across this ad for The Blue Dot, 1235 Vine St, Hollywood.
I've never seen or heard of it before, nor does it come up in any Google searches of the LA City Directories online.
Does anybody know anything about it?
That telephone number - HOlly 9425 - what era with it put this in?

Uncanny/net has a notation that this right of way was paved over in the 1950's to extend Pacific Avenue.
