Van Geroux, spokesman for the outdoor lifestyle center Bridge Street in Huntsville, confirmed Kona Grill will begin construction within the next two weeks on a 7,000-square-foot facility in Building 435 next to Belk. The restaurant should open in late fall.

Academy Sports coming to the old Wal Mart location at Drake and Memorial Parkway. There will also be three other tenant spaces created.
This had been rumored for a while, good to see these Wal mart skeletons get new life.

Supposedly this project fell through and Academy may be locating elsewhere

Is Element hotel just going to take up part of the Westin? If so, is that a bad sign?

Can only be positive if this is the reason and they are finally covering the mold growing on the outside and fixing the rope lighting thats been hanging down for years.

I assume they will be finishing out the top floors that have really just been a shell since the building was built. I never really saw the point of the condos there anyways.

Its not clear, if its a new structure or part of the Westin. The fact that Huntsville is a future location is probably a good sign

I've never been there, but a friend that is a local large commercial contractor was asked to inspect some of the problems and quote them to repair. He was shocked at the extent of the damage. He's already fixing a similar problem building near Bham, as a sub, and that project has gone on for years with different architects and engineers trying to stop the water without just tearing off the outside structure.

Engineering and design for an exciting new pedestrian/greenway set to begin.
This project will stretch from Holmes Ave downtown along Pinhook creek behind the VBC and end at Lowe Mill. It will include several pedestrian bridges a "pedestrian "skyway" over Memorial Parkway in the vicinity of Governors Dr. It will include landscaping, lighting, hardscapes, and signing.
This will be a great project, hopefully it will proceed quickly.

So is Town Madison becoming the Constellation of Madison or do you believe the story Breland is pushing?

I really hope he gets it figured out and does something great. This is some of the most valuable undeveloped land in the metro, and Madison's last real hope at a major shopping destination.

Breland is probably trying to figure out how he is going to squeeze the tax payers for even more money to cover not only the interchange but the blood money that Von Maur and/or Macy's is going to want up front to be anchors in this vaporware center in an oversaturated market.

Huntsville continues to lead the growth in Alabama, according to new Census estimates released today, adding more than 10,000 (190,582)residents since 2010. That's more than any other city in the state.

In Alabama, there are only four major cities, each hovering on either side of 200,000 people. And among these four, Montgomery is shrinking, while Mobile and Birmingham have been essentially stable since 2010.

Of the ten largest cities in Alabama, none is growing faster than Auburn, a college town rapidly evolving into a small city.

Auburn, according to Census reports released today, has been adding hundreds and even thousands of people with each passing year to now reach 62,000 residents. That's up from 53,000 just five years ago.

"When it comes down to it, Auburn is just a great place to be," said city manager Charlie Duggan Jr., who said many choose Auburn because of the schools, because it's safe, and because it's near the university.

This will be over a six year period done in phases
Mid-City is required to develop a minimum of 150,000 square feet of commercial and office space, 350,000 square feet of retail, a hotel with at least 100 rooms and 560 multi-family units. It is not yet known who will anchor the project or when the mall will close to make room for the development.

A cannibalization clause in the agreement said 70 percent of the businesses must be new to the Huntsville market,

Doesn't look like enough parking to me... It IS nice to see that they are still including that Top Shot Golf or whatever it is called in the material.

I would have liked to see several parking decks and replace more asphalt with a greenway that circled the entire property linking all the elements. You could access the entire development without crossing a single road or parking lot by walking or bike. The city should ask to see several more revisions which would
keep the recently remodeled movie theater, and possibly Sears and Penney's.
A little more outside the normal developer thinking please. This format gets a B+, lets shoot for an A.

wow this really doesn't deserve mention except to show a fine example of 🞵🞵🞵🞵 architecture Huntsville and many southern cities are cursed with. This example which would make a fine fraternity house doesn't fit in with any of the surrounding downtown Twickenham Square development or the nearby soon to be under construction City Centre.
Just a typical boring forgetful off the shelf "southern style" garbage, banks for some reason think is special. When this nice piece of land was purchased for this bank there would be no surprise what we would get

The only good thing is maybe it wont be too visible and will be quickly passed by.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the rendering. It does't fit in with the development and looks more like it belongs on fraternity row on Alabama's campus.

It looks like they took the plans from the main branch in Tuscaloosa and made minor alterations to the outside. Birmingham has a great design review board with specific guidelines for historic districts and commercial zones. Huntsville needs to step up and start to demand better architecture, specially in key districts such as downtown.
