From the video it looks like it is just west of the new Outlet Mall (rail line to the north, houses beyond that, large mall like building with multiple buildings surrounding it to the east).

Is that just a concept or is that seriously where they intend to build it? That doesn't strike me as the greatest location for it, on the edge of town by a mall parking lot.

The saviour that is sitting vacant. Not sure what the whole thing is with that place. CC moves to CentrePort, slaps some paint on their old buildings, and deems it redeveloped? Or that customers are swooning over their old space?

City has some plans to demo the entire Point Douglas neighbourhood south of the track, east of Disraeli, save some of the good buildings. Get on with it.

I'm not sure that's necessarily the greatest location either, as it would probably swallow up most of the site and forestall the possibility of other interesting urban developments around there.

Pretty sure the video is purely a concept and not intended to identify a site. At one point there is a giant blue box to the right as you walk in the front doors. This would suggest it backs on the Kennaston on the north side of Sterling Lyon, where the car dealers are reportedly going. In another part of the video it appears to back onto a train track with residential on the other side.

That said, if that corner is for some reason where they determined is their ideal location what about the northeast corner where Cavalia operated from last year. The reported size of their tent should more than accommodate an oval.

and why the slaming of leon brown? thats a 60,000 sqft building plus multiple other buildings its a big property takes time to fill. and they have a vision witch can take time to impliment

Is there actually a demand for a second indoor speed skating oval in this country? Vancouver converted their's into a giant rec centre. Is the one in Calgary not providing an adequate number of hours for training our Olympic athletes?

If this was a proposal for somewhere in Eastern Canada it would probably make more sense.

^ Good question... is the one in Vancouver not actually used for speed skating? (I'm assuming they can easily re-install the long track for meets and other big events.)

In other news, I noticed some sort of stud wall being built into The Bay's parkade on Memorial, taking its ramshackle ugliness to new, previously unimaginable heights. Anyone know what that's about?

I also noticed that work is under way on the McPhillips Station renovations.

^^ The Bay parkade looks like a temporary sort of enclosure on the second floor. Perhaps they are doing some rehab work and needed to enclose the space as part of that?
