That was the old design though so it probably did.

Good news on City Century, judging from the raw sketches it looks like a taller 3 tower Metropolis. Hopefully we get details soon.

I'm confused. I thought they've been trying to move forward ever since they purchased the land. Was there a point when the project was stalled? Or do you mean that they're looking to break ground soon?

I can't believe I forgot about it.

Asian developers are turning downtown into something I never imagined.

"Buying the land" means nothing to me.
Some companies have their land since 20 years and nothing ever happened. (they don't even have an architect)

I am talking about the official design, floors, number of towers and a projected groundbreaking date.

But it's like with Fig Central... Mr Eichler gave me a design, a date and everything changed at the end of the day.
Still it will be a progress to get these information and it shows that they are moving forward.

That's how I see it, but I am German (I live in L.A. since 3 years), so I write it a bit complicated once in a while.

I might work with hashtags in the future. So much easier..

'crow' is spot on. When you see the amount of pie-in-the-sky fantasy projects that have too often plagued downtown LA (cough, City House/Olympic), you learn not to just assume that buying some land and throwing up some conceptual sketches that could have been drawn by a fifth grader somehow means that the project is imminent, or even feasible in the first place.

Some folks enjoy picking at words and being technical just for sport.

If we get ONE 50-story tower on the the LA Gateway site (let alone THREE), I will be beyond thrilled.

Thank you and I agree, a 50 story tower would also close the gap between the Metropolis Site and the Ritz-Carlton.

I wouldn't explain myself for no reason, I think Easy is a honest and direct guy, I kinda like that.

Obviously not every land purchase is a serious project. Often these "proposals" are really just marketing ploys to sell the land to a real developer. The way I look at the proposals though - and this is just me - is I don't weight them all equally. We have lots of them out there from land owners that have never built anything. I take every single one of those with a grain of salt. But when I see national and international developers spending large amounts of money, I'm much more hopeful. Of course until shovels are in the ground and iron coming out of a hole I don't get overly optimistic.

They really aren’t architecturally significant. They were built when boilerplate apartment housing was sprouting up en masse along major corridors in LA. Now they are facing a hulking freeway and don’t really hold much value anymore (also, there are plenty more of these throughout central LA for preservationists/nostalgia). This is a good sign for the continuing revitalization of Fig and Expo Park.

Gutting of the Hotel Cecil much deeper then I had expected, hope some consideration is made to keep the lobby as much in tack as possible. It could be brightened up , with new features added, it's done all the time. The lobby is impressive, don't care about the rest of the interior a gut probably much needed. thanks jerellO for pointing it out.
