A quick tally from the Downtown News' latest update shows at least 1.3M s.f. of retail space in the construction pipeline--not including the Broadway Trade Center (1M+ s.f.) or The Bloc (150k s.f.)--with over half of that in six large projects: City Market (225k), Oceanwide (166k), At Mateo (130k), Luxe block (80k), Metropolis (70k), and Circa (48k). Even if only half of those get built, the coveted upscale retailers like Apple will have plenty of options.

The planned Spring Street hotel was partially amazing because it was to be built with no parking. Not anymore.

"A change has been made to New York-based investment firm Lizard Capital’s planned hotel at 633 S. Spring St.: It will now include parking." ARGHHH

Ya that really pissed me off. How will they provide access to any parking? that probably means no retail or minimal retail. Such bullshit

The width of a driveway is pretty small, virtually the same size or smaller than most storefronts in urban areas. In other words, pretty insignificant.

I actually think a street car is a great idea..... In some circumstances. Like Portland, San Diego, Orange County, Hollywood, Santa Monica, Long Beach and Austin and etc.

Downtown needs to be the terminus for any street car system that is created in LA. Downtown instead needs to focus on heavy rail and other rail projects. Not cramming all of these different ideas ( bike lanes, wider side walks, car traffic, street cars, parklets) all onto streets that are already ridiculously laid out and crammed with traffic. Especially with something so gimmicky.

People are more apt to ride a streetcar than a take the bus, and since the regional connector is not going under Broadway like I've always wanted it to, I am all for a streetcar. I would not be all upset if it doesn't happen, but I think if it did, it would be good for the city. The route is definitely a good one utilizing a part of Downtown not covered by light rail or subway lines. Yeah, it would be touristy but it would also be practical for locals too. Some cities street cars may and do come off as gimmicky, but here I think it would be useful.

Im really interested in what Suncal has plans for its parcel in the arts district. They've hired Herzog & deMuron to do the designs, we might actually get world class architecture for once.

Well it does say that parking will be hidden from view, but I don't know if that includes the entrance or not.

Is there a project I'm blanking on at 2nd and main? The Smell/New Jalisco just got a demo notice

Edit: apparently the property owner is a large national parking lot operator....

WTF. It's already sandwiched between two parking lots and a garage. It just doesn't make any sense without more details.
