Just their LRV program in North America; LRV assembly lines elsewhere are churning them out in a timely fashion.

I'd be interested to know if Bombardier LRT customers in the US are having the same problems. Let's face it, Bombardier has Ottawa, Quebec, and Queen's Park by the balls because they hold so much political power and any threat of not giving large contracts to Bombardier will be met with Bombardier threatening to close down factories in Ontario and Quebec.

Edmonton's new Valley Line P3 includes Bombardier as the LRV manufacturer, so this is a little worrisome for us too. But apparently there are clauses that provide an "out" so we can swap in another manufacturer under certain conditions.

Doesn't sound very lucrative, if Bombardier could only supply a non-compliant bid, and no one else bid.

Likely a consequence of the REM announcement. The AMT doesn't need these new trains anymore, so they found a way out of the tenders process.

In other news, the STM has finished testing the first Azur metro train, so Bombardier will now start shipping the 51 other trains at the pace of 1 train per month. The first 11 trains are already sitting in a warehouse, ready to be shipped.

Canadian-built BOMBARDIER FLEXITY light rail vehicles to serve new Valley Line LRT in Alberta


Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation, as part of TransEd Partners, has been awarded a contract for the Valley Line LRT in Edmonton, Alberta. The TransEd team is comprised of Bombardier, Bechtel, EllisDon and Fengate. Bombardier is responsible for the design and supply of the vehicles, signalling, communications, power supply and distribution, overhead catenary system, and related depot equipment. Bombardier’s scope is valued at approximately $391 million CDN ($280 million US, 247 million euro).

The Valley Line LRT project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) that includes a five-year Design-Build stage and a 30-year operation and maintenance (O&M) term. Bombardier brings to this project its extensive experience in delivering large, complex PPP projects in other countries.

Stage 1 of the Valley Line LRT includes a southeast to downtown rail line with 11 stops and one station. BOMBARDIER FLEXITY light rail vehicles will each carry 275 passengers along the 13 km system. These 100% low-floor vehicles allow for easy access for all passengers and provide a smooth and comfortable ride. Bombardier has sold more than 1,500 FLEXITY 100% low-floor trams to date. About 5,000 Bombardier trams and LRVs are in revenue service or on order in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America.

I'm so sorry Edmonton. Not over the design but the supplier. Even if you could opt out if they run behind would it be worth it? I think they will be 2 years behind scheduled with the TTC streetcars.

The Euro models would likely not meet Canadian safety standards. Or am I wrong about that?
