Chad Kroeger randomly appeared in a dream I had last night. In this alternate reality he was one of the guys from Ghost Hunters and was actually not horrible. What does this mean?!

Interesting article. Though I'd venture to say that most Québécois aren't even aware that Pepsi or Pepper is or was a derogatory term for them.

Just like I gather many anglophones don't know that "bloke" is a pejorative term for them.

In Quebec for sure. I should have been clearer as I had all of Canada in mind.

Likewise, I bet you a francophone in Sudbury is more likely to know of the "pepsi/pepper" slur than a francophone in St-Hyacinthe.

I live in a city that borders Ontario and that chose to call its BRT system "Rapibus"...

Pronounce that "rappy-bus", not "ray-pey-bus"...

There's still a few houses fronting onto Kenmount Road, BTW. I have nightmares about that being my life... living and working somewhere in the vicinity of Kenmount Road. Going to a gas station for a tin of pop. Going to the mall for anything, ever. I'd never venture outside Empire Avenue if not for road trips and visiting my parents in Mount Pearl, at the end of it.

And this gynecologist's sign on Freshwater Road should be a tourist attraction. J. shudders every time we drive by it. "I can't imagine letting a guy with that sign near my...".

"Pepsi" has become archaic, it seems to me. Just as well, as it carried a lot more negative weight when used than "bloke" ever did, it always seemed to me. The term basically disparaged an entire "minority group".

My wife and I would laugh about that one every time we drove by. It's like the learning/novice driver signs in cars. Sometimes I would think "novice driver and novice sign maker to boot."
