Funny you mention RL...they are leaving Denver for the same reason Saks left.

Because of their inability to keep up with changing demographics and market conditions? Because Saks said that the CC store was "underperforming" but also has closed stores all over the country. The forum was convinced that it closed because of some horrible error in Denver's ways, but I'm pretty sure all evidence points to the contrary. Do a quick check and see if there are stores in Dallas, Minneapolis, Phoenix or Seattle...

And so it goes with Ralph Lauren... their brand hasn't been high-end since the 1990s and their IPO; it's the same level of made-in-a-factory-in-China junk as any other mall store. Their closing has next to nothing to do with the state of Denver retail.

I haven't seen any indication that Cherry Creek Mall is under performing. I'd be surprised, it still has a unique retail mix and for a core population of perhaps 600,000 to 1 million people is the closest "real mall".

Having said that, I do think that a fairly comprehensive redevelopment plan has to be in Taubman's plans if they want the mall to stay relevant. I see this 500 Million plan to redevelop their Beverly Center.

Nope, I completely agree, but the peanut gallery here on the forum likes to peal the doom bell every time something closes. I was actually referencing a feverish debate that happened on here when Saks was closing about how Denver couldn't support high-end retail, not anything that coincides with reality.

This would be great for the area also.

Really I dont know why we havent been throwing something like the Big Wonderful on the 16th street mall every sunday in the summer? It seems like the events they have been trying to do have had similar aims but just fallen short.

Will be interested to see how the one day the big wonderful is on the mall this year does.

I had a dream last night that Denver was getting a new 1,250 ft skyscraper that looked like the Burj Al Arab but skinnier to look taller and more glassy.

I'll spare you the details, but my dream last night was also about something tall and skinny... just that mine was 22 years old and blonde. And somehow still more realistic than yours.

I'm actually less inclined to believe it is designed for future expansion. I would have expected them to extend the interior columns up past the roof level a certain distance if they did indeed plan on continuing up in the future. However the latest construction cam shows that the column are stopping, so unfortunately no, it's doubtful it will be expanded on in the future.

elevator core could be put in on the side. Doesn't need rising column's as the Colorado Center they just tore up the asphalt and starting building right away.
