Love the angle. Love how Calgary's skyline is quickly becoming multi-dimensional. Love how Brookfield is isolated/exposed in the middle . . . at full height it will have a massive effect on the whole skyline/composition.

No. Based on the renderings, there's a 4 metre parapet extending above the core. That's about 1.5% of the total height. You would have to be superman to notice that.

Big-big city, those T.O. shots. The skyline when viewed from the lake has always obscured how big the skyline actually is.

That might almost do it. From that angle the difference in distance from the camera of the big three wouldn't have much of an impact. Maybe from other angles there is more separation in the heights. Maybe like the angle of that image of yours, Chadillaccc, that I commented on a while back.

Regardless, though, this angle breaks the skyline's density up in a very interesting way.

Haha yeah Kelowna! If you're ever planning a trip to cgy send me a pm and vice versa.

As for Cgy's skyline - I think there's still lots of room for improvement which will happen over the mid to long term with more density now being added to areas surrounding the CBD - Beltline, Eau-Claire, East Village, Downtown West End etc.

Man, I remember when the Calgary Tower used to be one of the defining features in any Calgary skyline shot and now it's rapidly becoming so insignificant so as to not even being viewable from many angles. I wonder if that day will ever come for Toronto?

It'll probably get eclipsed and might well be out of the top ten tallest this century, but won't be insignificant for a while, the things around it are relatively tall, but still keep it visible from the lakeshore. That's my guess.

Calgary has always been pretty good with individual buildings, and of course, many of them, but it is moving to a new stage now. Even though they are building taller than ever, its the spread and complexity that are most exciting. It wasn't too long ago that it was a restricted clump, taller than Vancouver, but its limitations were evidence of it's actual size (a city moving from 800,000 to 1,000,000 plus). (Oh, I will be so disappointing if this sparks some juvenile skyline fight, 50 wasted posts long.) Anyway, it is quickly changing into a whole new kind of animal. The areas you listed will define this change, and I would guess that more towers away from downtown will start to appear as well.

Forget favourites, we all love where we are, but Calgary is on the move again, even if it takes a breather once the economic troubles catch her up.
