UPDATE: Mature Neighbourhood Overlay Review Engagement Events
The review of the Mature Neighbourhood Overlay (MNO) is important to citizens across Edmonton. The public engagement program to support the MNO review is an inclusive process with a variety of engagement opportunities planned or in progress.

Upcoming engagement:

May Mixed-Topic Insight Community Survey
Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2016

The survey will contain several questions to gather feedback on how citizens define mature neighbourhood character. Citizens can sign up to join the Edmonton Insight Community at edmonton.ca/insightcommunity.

Drop-in Interactive Session
Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Time: 4 pm - 8 pm
Location: Chateau Louis Conference Centre (11727 Kingsway NW)

*No Advance Registration Required

This event will be an opportunity for residents to tell us what features they like best about mature areas, what their ideal block looks like, and what development regulations they feel are working and not working in their neighbourhoods.

Facilitated Workshop
Date: Saturday, May 28, 2016
Time: 9 am - 12 pm
Location: University of Alberta – Lister Centre, Maple Leaf Room (11613 87 Ave NW)

Registration: Advance registration for this event is now open. Residents are encouraged to register early, as space is limited.

Workshop participants will explore what defines neighbourhood character, and how the MNO regulations and development process could be improved to ensure new development supports the unique features of each neighbourhood.

June Insight Community Survey
Date: Mid-June 2016

This survey will provide another opportunity over and above the May engagement events for residents to share their feedback on how to make the MNO a more effective tool for shaping development in mature neighbourhoods. The survey will be distributed through the Insight Community, and promoted through a variety of additional channels, including: traditional and social media, targeted communication to the development industry and community associations, and the Evolving Infill newsletter.

Recent Engagement

This past Saturday, City Administration hosted a Jane's Walk in the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood, attended by 27 citizens. Conversations were held on neighbourhood character, the approach to establishing the front setback, and on articulation of the facades on semi detached dwellings and much more.

City seeks input on vision for 109 Street
Edmontonians are invited to provide feedback on potential streetscape designs under consideration for the future of the 109 Street corridor, from the High Level Bridge to 61 Avenue. The team managing the Envision 109 project will present design possibilities and constraints, answer questions about the project and discuss ways to balance the needs of the community, area businesses and all Edmontonians.

Date: Thursday, May 12, 2016
Time: 4:30 p.m. -8 p.m.
Location: St. Basil’s Cultural Centre, 10819 71 Avenue

The 109 Street corridor serves several functions, such as a main street hub with distinct character nodes, a route for goods movement into and out of the core, and as a prominent commuter route linking downtown and south central Edmonton. The City wants to enhance the appearance and usability of this important corridor for people who engage in various activities and ways of getting around including driving, walking, biking and using public transit.

The planning study was done. But the 109 Street concept was not. This is part of the next steps coming out of the planning study - to discuss 109 Street itself, streetscape etc. The previous plan was about land use along the corridor.

Old Grandin Mall Location in St. Albert.
It's been a while since I drove by, but had literally no idea they were building these condo's out of sticks?? I just about got into an accident looking at these things...

I thought this is what we were getting :

There were 5 larger towers approved recently for the locations along Churchill.

That condo looks like a firetrap. No concrete floors? When it burns it will be quite the blaze.

BC now allows 6-storey wood-frame buildings.

Maybe its an optical illusion but the front left podium looks relatively level compared to the street (as we see it) but the main building behind looks on a slope. It must be an illusion based on the photo angle?

Tell me about it.

The lowrise phases are wood frame. No different than how they are built in Vancouver. Obviously the highrises will be concrete.

Yes we've known that was coming for some time now. Worth noting that the local office did not want to move, this was a corporate decision, as Katz is putting pressure on many of his business contacts to fill their towers

Wish them well, they are a fantastic tenant. I hope they are as well taken care of over there as they are at City Centre
