Well played sir! I reckon if you drink enough Kombucha you might get a bit of a buzz

Thanks. Had to google Kombucha. Found this in Wikipedia:

"Some adverse health effects may be due to the acidity of the tea, which can cause acidosis, and brewers have been cautioned to avoid over-fermentation.[14][15] Other adverse health effects may be a result of bacterial or fungal contamination during the brewing process.[15] Some studies have found the hepatotoxin usnic acid in kombucha, although it is not known whether the cases of damage to the liver are due to the usnic acid contamination or to some other toxin."

So it shares the long term effects of alcohol but none of the fun. One plus though would be waking up beside some hippy chick with dreads and smelling like patchouli oil. That would be a nice change from the seniors I usually meet at the Legion.

Anyone know what time the Futon/Birkenstock store on 14th opens?

Is that where Pop's was - or the space immediately to the south?

Have you ever been to the Futon/Birkenstock store? If you haven't, do it just for the experience.

It's were Pop's was. The space immediately appears to have been taken over by a naturopath. Hence the broth bar.

Trolley 5 Brewery anticipated opening June 15! Looks like the Teatro Group is rumored to have bought the former Corbeaux space next door - there's been work going on there for a couple months.

Speaking of Teatro, we've gone to their new bakery 2 or 3 times now and whilst I love the space, the desserts leave me wanting. THey look good, but taste rather bland.

Haven't been there but their EAT space (second floor at EAP) is pretty amazing for lunch.

Teatro Group signage is now up at the former Corbeaux space along with Frank architecture and interiors, wasn't this group originally RAD? They do amazing work here in cgy.

Within a couple blocks - Philosafy and the deli expansion of Una Pizza look to be really close to opening. Have also continued to see lots of work going on in the restaurant bay south of National on 17th, any idea what's opening here?

Looks like there'll be a Turkish restaurant coming to the ill-fated ground floor of the Burns Building this fall. I really hope they make it but I have my doubts. Feels too niche for such a prominent (and high rent) spot.

This is the same proprietor as the Turkish food stall in Crossroads Market, which seems to be well-rated in the usual locations.

That spot is such a cursed location; it's got multiple demanding clientele - City workers for quick breakfast-to-go and lunches but the theatre crowd in the evening. City workers seem more value-conscious but diverse, while the theatre crowd may be better heeled but a little old school. The one thing they have in common is speed. I think one key might be to somehow take advantage of the Olympic Plaza location with some sort of to go window during the summer.

I wonder if something like an Olly Fresco's or Sunterra Market might work?

On another note, has anyone tried The Himalayan?

Amazing. My wife and I stumbled across The Himalayan while out for a walk, and tried to get a table. Impossible: the place was packed. We had to get take-out, and booked a table the second time we went. Amazing food, great service. Would recommend to anyone. In fact, just talking about it makes me want to make another reservation.

They should have left Insomnia on the ground floor of the Burns, that place seemed to do well. I hope this Turkish place does well, but they better not be expensive or city workers will just walk right by like they did with the Chophouse.

I had drinks with my band mates at Proof last night. It was probably my fifth time there and my second time eating there. The first "meal" I had there was so underwhelming and left me wondering why they even bother with the food end of things. Last night in addition to the excellently mixed cocktails we had:
oysters ($2 each, very fresh can't complain)
Plate of roasted cauliflower (cheesy and tasty, not exceptional)
Smelt with peas and bacon (good, but smelt will always be bait to me)

PORK BELLY BUN ($3 each) This honestly might be the best deal in town. We ordered 12 of these. You stuff your own bun. Each bun is alloted two huge pieces of pork belly. The accouterments plate comes with a shrimp mayo, kimchi, cilantro and a cucumber pickle. It was honestly exceptional and a steal at $3 for each bun. The menu is always changing so if you want to give this place a shot go for a cocktail and stay for a bun or two!!!

The space would be perfect for Olly's or Sunterra but I feel that spot might lack the foot traffic to support it. The locations in Bow Valley and Transcanada are teeming with people, and have steady traffic throughout the day with all the towers closeby.

for the Himalayan. Every time I go, it's packed... well worth it. Best naan in the city.

This location definitely doesn't lack foot traffic, there are tons of people from the municipal building walking by there every day, plus the arts commons, burns building...
