On the bright side, if Jump+ were to relocate, then this could create a nearly square consolidated space of over 14,000 sq ft (GAP, GAP Kids, Aeropostale & Jump+) which could be very attractive to a destination retailer like Forever 21
Something is going on at Champlain for sure. There was staff taking up measurements Usually not something they would be doing for nothing, and there where large groups of suits in various areas of the mall taking notes for something. Hopefully something positive is coming to CF Champlain in the next year, or so.

My bad. Could've sworn I saw it. Guess I never really noticed. So not as big a gap after all.

From councillor Dawn Arnold's regular report on council activities:

Quote:
we will be creating a new lay-by for Codiac Transpo by Best Buy
This was passed by the last meeting of the current city council. It will be on the south side of Plaza Blvd, just to the east of Best Buy, and will be a recessed lay-by, not interfering with traffic flow.

The neat thing is that I recall a couple of years ago a discussion on our forum about where the new bus lay-by should be built since it was being kicked out of the Northwest Centre by Target. We agreed that the south side of Plaza would be ideal. One of the forum members even drew up a plan and I remember that he went so far as to contact Codiac Transpo. Maybe they took his suggestion on......

With Aeropostale closing, I'm willing to just about guarantee that Jump+ will be relocating in the mall.

The chance to have a nearly perfectly shaped 14,000 sq ft building opportunity directly opposite H&M on one of the most prominent corners of the mall is simply too good to pass up. This would be ideal for something like F21 or F21 Red.

I'm sure Cadillac Fairview will make Jump+ an offer too good to refuse........

Jump+ might actually be on there way to the empty location in the Walmart corridor next to Rogers. As I have understood the situation It would cost them the same to lease but they would have to renovate the store, and place new doors, or gate so they could close up shop, and CF would pick up the bill up to a certain amount. that is what I've understood of the situation. I'm hopeful to see the construction walls up at that location soon.

The trouble with that spot is that it is only 1200 sq ft, compared to 1700 sq ft at their current location. I can't imagine Jump+ being very happy about that.

If you look at the floor plan, there are a couple of storage lockers in behind that vacant space that could be consolidated into the store footprint, but even then, the new store would only be about 1500 sq ft - a definite step backward for Jump+.

The old Danier Leather location is 1600 sq ft - that would be a pretty good fit.

I wish that they would bring in a destination store like Abercrombie too to the mall I know Halifex has Hollister why not us have that one too. But the likelihood of it happening is next to nil.. But I can dream on those. But one store we could use is Journeys. But only time will tell and I hope Cadillac Fairview reserves us a few surprises cause I am tired of the status quo..

The PetValu signage has been installed on that little retail strip mall in the Superstore parking lot.

I don't believe these retailers, like Abercrombie (AE, Hollister, etc), are looking to expand much. Many, including them are having it rough on the financial side - Just look at Aeropostale. Sales are slumping, rumours of buyouts, etc. Plus the brand just isn't cool anymore. Kids like Forever 21, Zara and H&M. Kids with money like the higher end retailers.

If you are talking about the space next to Spencers being Jump +, I have a 100% source that it's already spoken for by another tenant.

Well, it looks as if U-Haul has moved beyond their poorly received bid on the old MHS site.

They now have their eyes set on the old Canadian Tire Building on Mountain Rd near the Mapleton Rd intersection.

They describe it as a "U-Haul Store and a self storage facility"

Here's their proposed site plan:

This doesn't bother me. I like that they are repurposing an existing building, and the old Canadian Tire is oodles better suited to this use than MHS was. It will be interesting to see what the neighbours think of this though...........

This is much better than MHS and would absorb the only remaining "large" retail vacancy in the area...win win for me...their location on West main is crazy small and crowded. I've heard it's one of their busiest locations for them in Canada.

Still seems kind of a waste, it's in such a prominent location. have to drive by there everyday to go to work, and I can't really say I'd enjoy see a giant UHaul centre. In my honest opinion, I always thought that self storage units facilities belong in industrial parks or places like that and when they are not located in such places I generally consider them to be an eyesore.

Eastlink Wireless is advertising for a new retail store manager in Moncton.

I have a well founded suspicion that this new store will occupy the vacancy next to Spencer's at Champlain Place.

They proposed something similar for the old Canadian Tire on Main Street in Fredericton and were shot down.

UHaul seems determined to get out of the Industrial areas and into these 'abandoned' big box store locations. But most folk seem to be against it for whatever reasons. (I agree with being against it; they don't feel like a good fit for that type of location as they have been).

Frankly, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if UHaul tries to snag the old Target location here in Freddy.

And that all said, if Freddy UHaul were to go for the Brookside Zellers location instead... I probably wouldn't be against it. I might not be fully happy with it; but it's a better fit than the Main Street CT was (or MHS would have been in Moncton. )

I noticed at the old Canadian Tire site today that they garage bay doors were open and there was a dozer or similar equipment. Seemed like they might have been digging up the floor of the garage. There was a bunch of material pushed to the front of the doors.

Good. I hope the new Moncton council feels the same way.

Im willing to bet you're right. It's very close to a major competitor in Rogers.
