They also attend the matches of the farm team and give a full 90 minute full throated show, no sitting, just standing, jumping and in similar fashion even though the atmosphere there is nothing like a first team game, nor as glamorous. Supporters are required to attend almost every match and half hearted support leads to losing supporter privileges (hanging out in the Supporter section and participating in other activities). They march to the stadium before key games in a display of solidarity and aggression towards their opponents (each supporter group tends to have their own style). They spend their weekends doing things like making banners for the team, going on drunken away trips and playing sports with other supporters. It's a die-hard subculture and appeals to many people, hands down some of the funnest and most outgoing people you could hang out with. I for one am not a supporter, just a fan but enjoy their presence and appreciate the dynamic they add to any game's atmosphere.
I've never actually had that explained to me. I just thought soccer fans stuck their noses up to the word "fan" because it was too north american. Honestly my biggest problem with the average MLS fans is these are mostly born Canadians and Americans prancing around like they are from England or Europe and it actually bothers me. The way they disrespect grid iron football like it's a lesser sport for lesser people and soccer is for the sophisticated and far more classy.

Honestly I live for sports and in many ways I crave and envy the experience that TFC fans have. It's something I love about fans in Winnipeg, Jets fans and bomber fans are some of the loudest rowdiest in the CFL/NHL. It's why I have never been big on live Eskimo games nor oilers. So trust me I do respect the hardcore "supporters" idea. But it's the anti north Americanism in MLS soccer that fires me up. You would never call rogers centre "grounds" or the field instead of baseball pitch. Now I get that these are commonly used terms overseas but why does it have to be adopted here? For instance on the RPB forum i see them say "it's a proper this and proper that" it just seems like the average MLS fan is just trying to fit in with the big league fans overseas by mimicking them and that's kind of puzzling to me. and to be honest sort of frustrating. I'm not trying to offend yo when i say this but when I see you guys holding up scarf's or singing in the stands it just seems so unauthentic to me. Another example is russia and the KHL, Hardcore hockey culture however they do it differently, they whistle instead of cheer or boo i cant remember, The ice is different they have made it there own instead of copying the NHL or North american hockey fans. So I definetly look at MLS fans as less "culty" however my beef will still remian with how you try and distance yourselves from the rest of the North american sports scene.

I also don't like the dismiss of the CFL like its insignificant or somehow not on the same calibre as the MLS and it pisses me off in ways I can never explain because it's so disrespectful to league loved in many ways the same level as the NHL in canada. A domestic soccer league to canada will NEVER be on the same level as the cfl in this country and that speaks volumes. but i dont wanna get into the MLS vs CFL debate, I'm way off topic to this thread as it is

A video showing the stadium atmosphere. Stadium was sold out with many standing room only tickets even though the Raps had a playoff game tonight, apparently 3 of the next 4 home games are almost sold out as well:

Even more impressive that there was also a Jays home game this afternoon. And although the games didn't overlap, the Jays still managed to pack in 47,000 this afternoon.
Things are humming along for the Jays, Raptors and TFC... and even the Leafs are looking at brighter days with winning the draft lottery.

They must be serving up the same koolaid in Toronto that the Oilers' faithful have been drinking for a number of years now.

I love steak and burgers, but just because I live in North America does that mean I only eat steak and burgers? Sometimes I like to try a little Brazilian-style sushi, a little Indonesian-style noodles or even some bloody Azerbaijani-style caviar. Expand your horizons and your experiences, you may actually enjoy life more.

my question was about the canopies capturing sound compared to last season.

To say that is unlike anything youve ever heard before makes me think you don't watch much pro sports. Any NFL building is louder than that. hell ive heard Rogers centre louder than that. Investors gruop field and Mosiac would give that a good run check out some CFL noise for comparision not saying it put's it to shame TFC fans definitely have some lungs as well

I've been to an NFL game, they can be loud, sure, but this night "sounded" different, completely different vibe. Our game against LA when we played at Rogers Center was louder but it may have been any other sport, this felt and sounded like a class soccer stadium.

Posters at the rpb forum are complaining about how the reno was a big failure.

Those guys seem to never be pleased. Give them a free million bucks cash and theyre pissed it came in $50 bills and not 100s lol.

So, it's a game played in a soccer stadiums (see posts elsewhere in this thread) in soccer leagues (NASL, MLS) by teams that call themselves football clubs - so is it soccer or is it football?

Us TFC fans are very cynical when it come to everything MLSE does because they have mismanaged TFC from the beginning and have lied countless times to us.

With the money spent on BMO field we should have gotten something a lot nicer than what we have now. the south end roof, open corners lost of the north stand being the most obvious item which could have been done a lot better.

Ideally something closer to Red Bull Arena or some of the other top MLS stadiums is what we wanted not the mess which BMO is, sure it is a prettier mess than before

or the much cheaper Child's Mercy Park in Kansas City

BBVA Stadium in Houston

To my eyes, BMO appears to be good-not-great, much like THF in Hamilton.

That said, BMO looks vastly improved in comparison to where it began, when it looked more like a community-use type facility as opposed to an actual professional-calibre stadium. It's really the canopies which elevate its apperance and give it a certain grandiose look that was missing before. I agree with Nite in that it's not in the same league as the enclosed MLS stadiums... BMO follows the models of 1970s era CFL parks where you have one big grandstand on either side of the field, and maybe one small stand in the end zone (much like the old stadiums in Regina, Ottawa, Winnipeg).

Watched the game on TV last night, BMO looked pretty amazing. My parents were there and said they had a great time.

I'm thrilled the road trip is over and the boys are looking great.

North End is underwhelming yes. But it has been published that they ran out of time and something more permanent will be built in the near future.

I think BMO looks great. That said, I just don't see how effective the canopy over the south stands would be.
