Fiber will run everything a lot smoother then copper. With copper you can get lots of interference on the line such as EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and Cross talk from other copper.

Also, if he wants to upgrade to a higher speed in the future he can without having a tech come over to upgrade anything.
