My criticism of the blue glass boxes are limited because at least they look clean and generally nice, unlike the beige pomo garbage that never looked good.
I mean I look at every other city's thread and I don't see anything in those cities that we don't have or don't have proposed, so i'm confused what you are looking for that is "more diverse".

Oh come on. If a new large scale project were built in a style like structural expressionism, or bauhaus, or true classical, there would be different thoughts to express than what blue glass has been giving us over the past few years. If a new building were to go all corten steel or limestone panels, it would generate different conversation than blue glass. I'm not sure why you think all conversation would remain identical.

Wouldn't it be great if the glass on Wanda Vista Tower varied from Red to clear rather than Green to Blue (clear). Chicago's skyline is increasingly blue, blue, and more blue with some beige and a little bit of black sprinkled throughout.

^^The sign was anticipated by the designers and city from the beginning. It didn't show up on the renderings because no one knew what the hotel's name was going to be at that point.

The new signage ordinance actually made the approval process by the city more drawn out, which is why it's only showing up now.

London House signage

Looking forward to seeing it in person, but first glance here.. I think it looks clean and tasteful.

it isn't gigantic it just breaks up the clean lines and takes away from the modern look linking the two older towers, IMO

The plan for Solstice on the Park is still Corten. It looks like it has gone through one round of VE and they have simplified the organic shaped windows on the flat faced elevations to a more linear banding of windows, but the corten is still in.

Maybe if Lucas had played along with FOTP's nonsense, i mean, it is the Chicago way...

I haven't been in the rental market for a long time but this just seems insane to me... $1610 is the cheapest unit in the building for a studio? 3k a month for a 2/2? almost 6k a month for a 3 bedroom? Who is paying for these? Its not like this is the gold coast, its a meh location in the south loop

I like when people bring up Gold Coast for rental when it's actually cheaper on average than River North and Streeterville. But yeah, agree - it should be lower price than that. $1610 is the studio or what?

Funny, I was just using this building as an example for why a walkup gut rehab at Broadway and Oakdale in Lakeview was asking too much. A 1000 sf 2nd floor 3 bed 2 ba with okay finishes was asking $3000/mo, whereas one could get a unit of the same size brand new in this building starting at roughly the same price

580+ sf is also a bigger than average studio. That's almost a big as my spacious one bedroom. Based on what I've seen it doesn't sound too outlandish for new construction.

Eh. Apples and Oranges. Depends on what you want really. The new luxury buildings downtown have gyms, pools, satellite, internet, etc all paid for. You could get a 1 bedroom for say $1200/month in Lakeview in an older building with none of that stuff and if you wanted all of it - after your gym membership, cable/satellite, and internet, you'd be up to about $1400/month with an older building. Still would pay more downtown (my renovated one bedroom in GC is just under $1800/month).

^ Our nascent midtown Manhattan is growing up so fast! Your were an adorable little district full of stumpy brick walk ups and parking lots with a world of potential just yesterday!

Brings a tear to the eye...
