Yeah, and those numbers for Edmonton and Calgary seemed about right to me too.

The city of Calgary alone is well over 1.2 million, it's actually 1.23 million as of the last municipal census. The metro as of July 1, 2015 is 1 440 000, so as of 2016, it will be over 1.45 million (likely around 1.46 million), rounded to 1.5 million. If you're not going to do any research at all, why bother challenging the numbers given?

I've played this course in Mississauga. It's an old landfill site. Shot 77.

Greater Calgary should hit 2 million by about 2025 (pure guess on my part). Edmonton has kept pace with Calgary really well, it's possible that one day Greater Edmonton will be bigger again, but I think the city of Calgary will stay larger. Glad that Edmonton's skyline is getting a much needed update as well!

If the crash hadn't happened, then yeah we could have been looking at 2 million by 2025, but even back in the good times I would have put it at 2030, so I'd say around 2035 is when we'll see that. This is assuming a long term stabilization of metropolitan growth down to 28 - 29 000 per year.

20 x 28,000 = 560 000

560 000 + 1 440 000 = 2 000 000

Was the population claim for Calgary that outrageous a statement? On an urban affairs forum to boot?

It's almost like asking for proof that it gets cold in Winnipeg during the winter.

The boosters can say it's 1.5 million, but it doesn't look like more than 1.4 million to me. That source has to be wrong.

Not one single burgher over 1.475, I say.

I did the research, that's why I challenged it. It's not 1.5 million yet and won't be in the next count either, thanks for backing me up. Assuming dramatically increased growth year over year based on what has happened economically in the last year is doubtful.

Someone asked if 1.5 million was a correct number and I said no, which is accurate. Not a big deal, just correcting information.

A growth of 20 000 is not "dramatically increased growth" In fact, it's dramatically reduced growth. Calgary is now 1.5 million as of 2016, it's not a big deal, just a mathematical fact. When something is over .5, you round it to one, such as environment Canada does with temperatures, Calgary is now over 1.45 million, therefore it's okay to say it's 1.5 million. No need to be a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 about it at all, really.
