what a bunch of bs being spewed in this thread lol. I'm sorry but its hilarious (for the record I dont own a jacked up dually) pure anecdotal evidence being turned into hard facts.

I live in the province with the most trucks per capita in Canada. I see so many jackasses driving like tools in them every day that they blend together and almost become invisible. They're as common as rickshaws in Asia.

Yeah, there are jacked up duallies. They exist. But out of all the jacked up trucks, the vast, vast majority are half-tons. And of all the different classes of pickup, dualies are easily the least likely to be lifted. They exist, but its been a long time since I recall seeing one. And I grew up / split my time in Alberta. Plus, as far as I know, no duallies actually come from the factory like that.

The vast majority of the ones I walk past actually seem to have a gooseneck or fifth wheel (or the base plates to accommodate one). Sure, they're ugly and wasteful expensive. But if you actually tow 20+ klbs, having a large tongue weight actually makes the whole thing much more stable and safe. And I have a hard time knocking safety.

I think in Ontario, once you are over 4500 kg, you are considered a commercial vehicle.

O-Tac lives in the jacked-up fullsize truck capital of the country, if duallies set up like that are so common why not just snap a few pics himself?

Your Toyota link, there aren't even any dually trucks to be found there (unless you count Hino trucks, obviously, but I don't think toyota.com even links to their site).

They've been wanting to build one for a long time though. This is nearly 10 years old already, but nothing in showrooms...

Regardless, there is something specific to the psyche of a person driving a pickup truck that seems to make them a million times more likely to push down the gas pedal to the floor and make the back of their vehicle do a fishtail in freshly fallen snow...

Had to Google coalroller. Figured out duallie on my own. I wonder if that's what people with such things here call them? I've not heard the terms before, but we definitely have those hideous trucks. They're called 'Berta trucks here, even though they're inevitably from Avalon Ford and driven by locals (but bought with Alberta money, of course).

I had to laugh this morning in light of our recent conversation in here. Saw a big dually on Deerfoot sans trailer with a giant Rider Pride decal in the rear windshield.

I wonder if there is a bias of where you live to all this? If you live in rural parts of Canada or Alberta there seems to be a much more negative view of pickups.

Having lived in Vancouver or Toronto my whole life I don't really see pickups outside of work vehicles and the odd personal truck so I don't really have a negative association of them. Never even heard of coal rollers or truck nuts outside of the internet.

I have one buddy in Vancouver whos dad has a pick up for their cabin up the coast. We used it to haul some topsoil for my moms garden on the north shore and he helped me move one time. It was great.

If I was seeing the types of jackasses you guys are describing every day I would probably have a different view of pickups, but as far as my urban interaction with them they seem quite innocuous to me.

Being a RWD vehicle with a light rear, they're perfect for that.

I recall back in the years when I had chosen to be in charge of my buildings' plowing myself (I bought a used F150 for that purpose, paid for itself and then some during the very first winter) I would do that all the time.

That F150 (5.0 manual 4x4 reg cab short box) with its big heavy snowplow in the front and good winter tires on all wheels was a delight for turning corners like that in freshly fallen snow! (And of course, everytime I got behind the wheel, it was because of freshly fallen snow.)

And yes, coming from Calgary I definitely have a bias against pickup trucks. I rarely ever notice them in Ontario, and especially not Toronto. Even when I spent a ton of time in the North for work they didn't seem ridiculous.

But wow - when I travel to Calgary to visit family it's obvious as soon as you get into the parkade for the airport.

Even I had to look up coalroller. Made me laugh thanks. I see them up around Barrie, Peterborough, towns west of K-W.

I love pickup trucks--I learned to drive in an '87 F-150 and '77 Jeep Pickup. I wish they'd bring back the simple stick shift and bare bones dash of the pre-90s trucks.

I wish Ford would bring back the Ranger.

I've never seen a truck like that Dodge RAM with duallies up front and back: hot.
