This was probably posted pages ago but I don't recall seeing it and figured I'd share for those interested:

Development plan may seek to cap still more track near 30th St. Station

Quote:
A decades-long development plan for the area around 30th Street Station may include the near-complete capping of the rail yards to the north of the station building.

Previously, backers of the 30th Street Station District Plan had proposed leaving a large section of track to the east of the project site exposed, due to the challenges of building over the dense section of rail.

But plans are now being drawn up to largely cap that section, which is controlled by SEPTA, according to according to Keith Orris, a senior vice president at district plan partner Drexel University.

The section's capping would not occur until after 2040, and would be dependent on real estate values in the area rising enough to justify the expense of the engineering feat, Orris said during a recent appearance at the Urban Land Institute conference last week in Philadelphia.

That's more like it! As someone suggested, it will be a far later phase, but so long as it's a goal, I'm happy.

Geez, the projection was something like in 2040. That's like me saying, I plan on winning the Pa Lottery in 24 years. Worthless piece of news, if you can call it that.

Parking lot coming to 20th and Market. Not the most surprising news in the world, but still dissapointing. If ZBA (or Council) approves, I *really* hope they put a time limit in and stick to it.

I'm not worried about the parking lot. Brandywine has a long track record of actually building things they say they are going to build so it's not like this is a speculative demo and flip.

The whole project is a "what if," except for cleaning up the station.

Well, yes—as most masterplanning projects are. It's still significant that this plan is much more serious in terms of stakeholder involvement, resources devoted to design and planning, and viability, than projects for this land in the past.

I agree. I was just responding to the "phase II in 2040 is not news" comment.

At this point, they might as well just stick 20 supertalls in there and connect them with a skybridge and a cloud village.

Comcast is thriving. I think this bodes well for another building.

Comcast is thriving. And in today's corporate world, if you're not a hunter, you're a hunted. I'm glad to see that Comcast (unlike all those great former Philly-based banks) is a hunter.

Similar to their acquisition of NBC, Dreamworks is the type of business that will need to maintain its location. That being said, it will certainly help add jobs to Comcast's Philly HQ. Does anyone know how many back-office jobs Philly netted as a result of the NBC acquisition?

I dunno, two buildings for Philadelphia is enough. Given Comcast's terrible reputation, poor service offerings and general strangulation of the industry, let's hope that as soon as the CITC is finished, the antitrust regulators wake up and tear the company to pieces.

How many Comcast customers would head for the door if that were a plausible option where they live? I know I would.

I have a hard time relating when people complain about Comcast. My service is reliable and fast and I've never had a bad customer service experience. The wait times on the phone are annoying, but that's in line with every other customer service number I call. The people on the other end are always friendly and helpful though.

A part of me thinks that people jump on the Comcast hate bandwagon because it's fun to be a part of the group, even if they have never actually had a bad experience themselves.

Take this info for what its worth but I was talking to one of the fire proofing workers for the new Comcast Tower and he stated that there was already a 3rd Comcast tower planned across the street on the lot. He said it without hesitation, I didn't bother to dig for more info but its definitely something to consider when all of us have already assumed/heard rumors of a 3rd tower in the future.

We probably shouldn't get too deep into this in this thread, but suffice to say I have had many many bad experiences with Comcast

I think it's pretty clear that Liberty is amassing property across the street (diagonally) from the CITC. I guess it depends on what this fellow means by "planned." I think it's probably like planning to get married "someday," but you haven't proposed yet, let alone set a date.

That would be disastrous for Philadelphia's economy and really weird thing for any Philadelphian to hope for. I am opposed to comcast's desire to basically destroy net neutrality, but the government can continue to advocate for the best interests of its citizens without "tearing the company to pieces " If the government was in the business of destroying companies, there are plenty of companies in America that are far more harmful to the American people.

Besides I feel like most people just complain about the customer service, give me break, who cares? Also, count me among the people who have never had an issue with them.

Besides, you act as though the only thing Comcast is bringing to Philly is tall buildings. I believe Comcast provides more private jobs in Philadelphia than any entity besides Upenn. And that's not even getting into all of companies who are located in Philadelphia for no other reason than to serve the behemoth that is Comcast.

Having the largest media company in the world is a great thing for Philadelphia. Push to make them better, but do not push to tear them apart, it would truly be cutting off our nose to spite our face.
