And,coincidentally, his family's handicaps. At the time I wondered if his behavior might be attributed to Munchhausen Syndrome.

I'm surprised they didn't frame it as a special levy to pay for all the manganese they've been delivering to our homes at no extra charge

Bowman has moved past the looking like a dud stage to "he is a dud", I'm beginning to wonder if the guy even has a pair of balls!?!

After crooked Katz, we are left with this namby pamby wimp with no vision or conviction other than for his ever important photo ops! Would venture to guess most are disappointed!

I think a new nickname for Bowman should be: "grow a pair Bowman" with special thanks to Urban r!

I had waves of optimism about him when he was running, then during 8 months into his job doubt replaced that, then I thought he needs more time. He is all over the place, and for all his talk of transparency, he seems to be as fake as they come.

Bowman was only elected because he wasn't Judy W-L.

Neither him nor Pallister have much of a long term vision for anything.

In both cases, the alternatives to voting for Bowman / Pallister were horrifying.

An uneducated guess -- the maintenance and overhaul schedule is as much what keeps I29 in comparatively good shape as does the initial construction.

I29 specifically is under almost constant repair or outright replacement between the border and Fargo. I joke that it's to make shopping Canadians jealous, but in reality most interstate highways aren't in as good shape as that stretch of I29. In fact, the Interstate Highway Trust is broke and there's a lot of hand-wringing going on in the states over how they'll keep up their extravagant highway network.

Check out what Chinas doing. Interstate on steroids. The interstate system is great. But there's nothing you can do about the traffic in places like LA. Just need to get the cars off the road.

Yeah, man. My favorite Chinese highway (so far) is in Qingdao, where they could have built a bridge over the narrow mouth of their bay, but instead built a freeway across the widest part, complete with an interchange connecting to a peninsula in the middle.

That's kind of awesome, but also really crazy and probably stupid. Factor in iffy Chinese building standards and it's also pretty scary.

As for the Americans, while the Interstates are great for inter-state travel, they could stand to yank some of them out of their cities, in some cases, and stop building them in others. Besides their funding problems, you're right to cite cases like LA. They could build their way to an absurd conclusion where every bit of space in the city is highway or parking spot and only then solve their congestion problems because nobody lives there any more.

Interesting piece of Haiwan bring trivia I just found out: it's more than long enough to cross the English Channel. It's also quite a bit longer than Winnipeg is broad, and could reach from Highway 1 at the floodway to Highway 1 at St. Francois Xavier, where the Headingly bypass should start.

It is a pretty sheltered harbour. Probably one of the best sites you could think to do this kind of thing. But still totally unreal especially given other options like you said. We struggle here to build a road over a two meter creek.

^ Yeah, if you go to mapfrappe and do an overlay, you can see that the over-water portion of the bridge would extend roughly from Dugald and the Perimeter to somewhere past Fort Whyte Centre. Crazy. It does make any Winnipeg infrastructure project look like tiddlywinks by comparison.

Canada is tiddlywinks in comparison to China with respect to infrastructure and population. You just can't build that stuff based on our population. The province of Shandong has some 95 million people. 95 million. One province. China has fifteen administrative divisions larger than Canada in population. Fifteen. Ontario would be the 27th largest division in China.

I seem to be lacking a sense of scale.
