The question was not directed at you, but to the poster who feels this development looks like a "seniors home", appears "very sterile","very boring" and should be located on Kenaston or some such street in suburbia.

I used your previous post, as someone involved in the project and your brief explanation,(below), so the poster could respond on how to turn this into a funky, hip, urban location in the Village taking into account the ecomonics, cost, etc..of doing so, when you explained the process was not easy with your knowledge of it..

That argument seems to be waning, and dropping your pants for such a threat can no longer be tolerated. The province would need to be aggressive in supporting making homes in the city more attractive. Perhaps reducing the land transfer tax on homes in established areas? There are a plethora of actions the province can take to curtail outward expansion.

There are plenty of prime areas in the city ripe for redevelopment. One in particular is the massive area bordered by Archibald, Mission, Lag, and Marion. This massive area is a wasteland of industrial blight, gravel roads, fields, etc.

And being that's its brownfield has more costs than normal development which most normal developers wont want to pick up.

If I recall properly a lot of that area is the old St. Boniface Landfill which restricts development due to methane gas issues.

We've just elected an overwhelmingly suburban/rural provincial government. If anything I would expect them to be even more favourable to outward expansion. What possible reason would they have to discourage growth and development in their base?

northwest corner of everyone's favourite parking lot at portage and main has been fenced off with equipment and some work going on for awhile now.. fence posts pulled out, land moved around. is Harvard slowly doing its own tests?

I hope we see them build something there. Again, it does not have to be tall. Perhaps they are convinced P&M will open and they have a plan for the site.

I'd like Selkirk, Manitoba to increase in population between double within the next 10 yrs. Their 2011 Pop. was 9,834. I'd like to see 18,000 by 2026-2031.

Forget about Brandon. They're just not interested in growing much beyond 39,000.

Current estimates put the CA over 60K. The Maple Leaf plant had a huge impact on the city, with growth finally occurring after years of stagnation.

Anyone else desire to see a refresh of Hanford Drewitt's Broadway store? It has been tagged numerous times, and the cleaning has left it looking worse for wear. I would also like to see new landscaping along the centre medians.

Never went in there all the years I lived downtown, except once when my Mom died and I needed something to wear for her funeral.

The issue with the storefront is that it is so closed off. You cannot see anything visually inside the store if you peek in the window.

The dark grey fascade is too boring to look at.

there was somewhat of an initiative bandied around for this lighting sculpture thing for the medians. I even recall concrete plans for a first permanent installation at Broadway and Edmonton.

I noticed railings were be replaced on the Albert St parkade. Maybe it had to do with that. But hopefully its a shiny new tower in the works.
